Live Radio

Will live, hosted radio programming (over the airwaves) become a thing of the past in near future?

People more and more get their music from live streams on the internet, and from things like Serius Satalite. And people also download music (whether legally or illegally) all the time. So where does this leave real, traditional AM/FM radio?

  1. Ouch! In a word: No. Not the NEAR future It will take a while. and it won't be from the things you mention. Mostly radio will kill itself, especially if it doesn't go back to a more traditional local approach. Plus there'll be some help from newer technology - both bad and good for radio. Specifically Wi-Max and stuff we don't even know about yet. Currently radio is taking steps (highly controversial) to limit their financial losses so they can remain valid as investments. Voice-tracking from distant regional studios, less money for promotion, lower salaries and other things are being done to curb costs... at the expense of the employees and stockholders. Don't forget talk in its various forms and rest assured radio is doing all it can to come up with newer, more exciting methods of programming (podcasting is an example as is a more developed web presence). Though down, radio isn't down for the count - yet. Here's some links if you want to join the discussion -a guy named duh
  2. I think radio will be around for some time one of the things that is steamed is local radio stations. Radio having less owners and being less local is more apt to have a negative effect than streaming or podcast since the radio industry is smarter than the music industry and many of the most popular podcasts are from NPR. Talk radio is still very popular but there is likely to be less DJs and program managers. Many radio shows are already syndicated.
  3. "Kh a a a a a n n" ! ! Yes it will I think djing is about all done. The new technology is replacing them at a fast rate. With more smaller stations being bought out by bigger stations with the new technology. There will still be AM/FM stations but they will be computer controled. And like you say more and more people get there music on the internet. &
