What equipment do I need to start a live internet radio talk show?
I've been told that I need a mixer w/phantom power, an ADDA audio interface, and condenser mics. But i'm cost conscious right now and I just want to work with two el-cheapo mics to get a 2-man internet radio talk show going. I also want to have music in between talks. What equipment do I need? Yes, I need a computer and internet access. I got that part down.

- as far as i know you can boradcast your internet radio using the shoutcase plugin for winamp players. you just need to configure the plugin and drag and drop the songs that you want others to listen and more over you can put in your voice for the online listeners using the mic connected to your pc. simple. i almost did that for 3 years.
- 1 Microphone, a PC with at least a 700mhz processor, 256mb of ram, Winamp (free download www.winamp.com), Shoutcast plugin (free download at www.shoutcast.com), Linerec plugin (line recording is for microphone to broadcast) and a Shoutcast server (another computer at your house, or buy server space online *search* shoutcast server ) OR www.live365.com has many choices for broadcasting. Winamp allows the use of the shoucast plugin and a linrec plugin. The linerec plugin allows you to use your regular microphone input to broadcast via shoutcast through Winamp. If you don't use the linerec plugin, you will only be able to broadcast mp3 formatted recordings. .wav files only work if you tweak the settings in the plugin, and use different settings in Winamp for the soundcard. No matter how you decide to broadcast, you will need to "lease" a server. The server I used was about $40 a month and allowed up to 100 listeners at 56k stream. A 56k stream sounds about as good as FM radio, and there is really no need for more than that unless you are using your own server, then you can max it out. Realistically, anyone listening will not need more than 56k unless you want to stream video. I would be more than happy to send you a setup file that I sent all of my DJs when I ran my internet station. It installs the plugins and sets up Winamp's preferences. If you send me your server IP and Port, I will make that automated too. It is fairly easy to do this stuff, but as a newbee, this all helps you get to what you want to do... broadcast. Keep in mind that you can skip all of this by pre-recording your shows and uploading them to a website so people can download them to listen. Basically like a podcast except people can listen online through their favorite player without having to download them directly. Give me a shout if you need the help. Here is a link to a show I did to be syndicated on several internet radio shows. http://www.shawnawrites.com/Zilly/podcasts/Demo_For_Syndication_2.mp3 Zil
