What equipment do I need to start a live internet radio talk show? I've been told that I need a mixer w/phantom power, an ADDA audio interface, and condenser mics. But i'm cost conscious right now and I just want to work with two el-cheapo mics to get a 2-man internet radio talk show going. I also want to have music in between talks. What equipment do I need? Yes, I need a computer and internet access. I got that part down.

Is there a internet Spanish Rock station or talk radio I can listen to? I am learning Spanish one my first plans of action is to get familiar with the words. Not know what they me, just be able to pick them up. So I figured I would listen to the radio, (there are Spanish speaking stations where I live.) but the music is not my preference. I prefer Rock, blues, Jazz or Talk Radio (I prefer political talk shows.) Does any know of any links I can use and listen to for free on the internet in Spanish?
Do you listen to radio talk shows streaming in on internet? I live in Hyderabad, A.P. I listen to conservative radio talk shows from USA streaming in on internet. How many in Hyderabad do so?
What internet radio station broadcasts live NHL / MLB games? The more modern smart phones/cell phones today such as the Apple iPhone, RIM Blackberrys, HTC Smartphones, Nokia Smartphones, Samsung Smartphones and many others brands now have internet radio capability, be it via WiFi or via data streaming from the cell phone service providers network. However, I cannot seem to find a radio station that streams live broadcasts of sports games, be it NHL, MLB or other major sports leagues. Does anyone know of an internet radio station that broadcasts live hockey games, preferably games of the Toronto Maple Leafs? I know about half of the smart phones today also have FM radio capability. However, most North American cities have news, talk, sports on AM and music on FM. However, most smart phones today offer only internet radio or internet radio + FM radio only. Here are some examples of the radio stations that broadcast live sporting events: HOCKEY 640 AM - Toronto Maple Leafs 800 AM - Montreal Canadiens 1040 AM - Vancouver Canucks 1050 AM - New York Rangers 720 AM - Chicago Blackhawks 98.5 FM - Boston Bruins 1200 AM - Ottawa Senators 630 AM - Edmonton Oilers 960 AM - Calgary Flames BASEBALL 880 AM - New York Yankees 720 AM - Chicago Cubs 680 AM - San Francisco Giants 590 AM - Toronto Blue Jays 1500 AM - Washington Nationals 850 AM - Boston Red Sox 1080 AM - Texas Rangers (Dallas) 740 AM - Houston Astros 710 AM - Seattle Mariners 790 AM - Los Angeles Dodgers As you can see, as of 2010, most live sports broadcasts are done on the AM radio band. Most smartphones get internet radio or internet radio + FM radio. How can I listen to live sports on internet radio via my smart phone? Thank you for the webcast site but a lot of smart phone web browsers aren't able to handle the hockey webcasts website. I also know XM radio has the games but I am looking for a free internet radio station. The webcast site is great is you are listening to the game on your computer while working though :) Thanks for the information on the NHL teams contract with XM Sirius satellite radio preventing NHL games from being broadcast live on internet radio. I know Sony Ericcson has made cell phones with both AM & FM radio capability like the Sony Ericcson Music R300. Too bad none of the smart phones today, made by any of the manufacturers have AM radio capability built in.
What to fill Internet Radio Station with in-between Live Shows. Music? Comedy? We're looking to start an Internet Radio Station, and we have all of the equipment necessary, and a large music library. However, we only are able to produce a podcast at certain times. What should I fill the station with when we're not talking, so that people still listen? Is there some sort of free comedy stream or something else to revert to while our show's not on?

Is there a way to create an mp3 file from a radio stream that you are listening to over the internet? I listen to a weekly talk radio show from a NY radio station (I live in PA) that I listen to using itunes and I would like to "record" it into an mp3 file. Is this possible?
Are there any late night radio shows on the Internet where people can call and talk about their problems? I visited L.A. a few years ago and stayed at a hotel room alone at night. I felt lonely and turned on the radio. There I discovered a great heart-warming late-night show where young girls called in crying about their break-up with their boyfriends and young couples dealing with relationship problems. The talk show host had a beautiful soothing voice and talked very lovingly and intelligently. I ended up staying up all night listening to their problems and became very emotional. Now I am alone again staying at a quiet house at night thinking about that late-night show, but I can no longer find any radio show like that in my local area. I am trying to search for live radio on-line but can't find a show like that either. Does anyone know an on-line late-night talk show like what I have just described? Maybe they have some show archives on-line where I can hear great shows of the past.

Please recommend a streaming audio application for Android phones? I have the T-mobile MyTouch phone, with Android software. Can anyone recommend an application that will let me stream a wide variety of Internet talk radio stations? When I am on the Internet, I like to listen to stations with the "Listen Live" option, which often plays with Windows Media player. Since the player doesn't work when I'm using the phone's Internet browser, I would like to have a way to listen to stations on my phone.

R.I.P. 97.1FM Talk Radio. los angeles? BLOW ME UP TOM!! that was the last thing said before 97.1 fm talk radio left the air at 5pm 2-20-09 I was a faithful listener since 1998. I remember being in high school and actually taking notes on tom's Rules on how to pick up chicks. I remember staying up till 3 am listening to the john and Jeff Show. I remember Laughing My Butt Off with Howard in the Mornings and Changing the station after the show was over just to listen to the Triples at in the afternoons. Corolla In the mornings will be miss and even bonaduce will be missed, and how could I forget Tim Conway, he was always cool to listen to. It kind of felt like the last day of School right before you graduate. saying good bye to long friends knowing that maybe that will be the last time you ever hear from them. I was lucky to be on air once with john and Jeff in 2001. also lucky to have seen and hear everyone for the last time today over the Internet. they had live video of everyone. at one point frank started to cry and everyone went to go Hug them. As lame and gay as this sounds it was really sad to watch it. 97.1 fm was always there to make my day go by faster. They will all be missed and I hope I get to hear them all soon again. especially Frosty, Hedi and Frank. R.I.P. 97.1 FM TALK RADIO. :O( Chris.
Do you know radio talk show? Hi everyone, First of all I would like to request you to please please read my advert in full with proper understanding first and then reply a post as I have been so disappointed after several times posting this and people tend to refer me to podcasts and online radios. I am only interested about channels which are available on my FM enabled phone without using internet. I live in London. I have a Nokia 6300 and I can listen to LBC (97.3) and BBC (94.90) stations on my phone. I was wondering if there are other radio channels I can hear on my phone using FM! Please let me know only about Talk Show Channels or something very interesting like LBC. I am not interested about music channels as I already have some. Also please let me know the frequencies of those channels you recommend. Many Thanks in advance, hope other readers will find this helpful too.

Can I make my own 'Radio station' for free? I am thinking about making my own talk radio station on the internet for free (for a project at school, and for fun). I've checked out Live365, but you have to pay for their 'Talk Live' options, etc. Is there a way I can host my own talk/dj radio show for free? I have a microphone, etc. I want a station I can customize a little bit and have people listen to when I'm 'On air' Thanks!

Internet radio call-in show? Hi all. We're looking for the optimal way to do an Internet radio call-in show. Our plan is to have the authors of books being interviewed (preferably live with caller Q & A) and play the shows for visitors to our website. We anticipate that a couple of thousand people will probably listen to the show. Hosted solutions like Live365 seem perfect for this in terms of providing the infrastructure. The biggest question that we have is how to handle the call-in nature of the show. There are a lot of teleconferencing solutions out there but they usually have it set up so that either just the leader can talk or everyone can talk. What we want is to set up a queue (just like a radio station would) and preferably be able to monitor that queue (pre-screen callers, etc.). I'm sure there are some very expensive solutions for this geared to radio stations. However, we're looking for something a little more inexpensive and are looking for ideas as to anything that might work. Thanks!
What Type Of Business Entity Should I Be ? Who Should I Talk To ? I live in Illinois, USA, and have a series of websites ranging from drop ship sales, entertainment weblogs, and soon to be internet radio stations. All business is done online. Income comes from Drop Ship Sales, Affiliation payments, and Ad space sales. Where do I start to make sure the IRS doesn't knock down my door? Do I become Inc? Sole proprietorship? Something else? Who do I need to talk with?; lawyers, local office, state office Thank you so much for the help in advance !
Internet radio station for J-pop/Rock? Hi. I just moved back to the States after living in Japan for eight years. I was wondering if there was an internet radio site so my wife won't be as homesick, and we can keep up with the more recent stuff. It doesn't have to be an actual radio station in Japan since we know that they talk all over the music. Thanks!
Radios in the internet? Is there any live radios on the internet (FREE) ..? if there is i'm looking for a radio runned by humans and like in the middle of songs they cut in and talk :) I like those types. If there is any, Links!? please no live365
I'm interested in starting my own radio station...? I don't want to spend a lot of money, and I'm not talking about an internet radio station. I just want it to be small, just voluntary. The intended audience is high school and middle school. I live in Hawaii - there are many open radio stations on FM and AM. How would I go about doing this? Any tips on how to get started? Please no rude answers!
Live UEFA Champions League radio broadcasts? Hi, I am having trouble getting champions league here on TV, I don't have a great internet connection so I've been trying to find a great radio station too listen to the game which is great for me. Only one I have been able to find is BBC's one and Talk Sport but as I Live in the United Arab Emirates they never allow me to listen to the games. I have the same problems with FA Cup and Carling Cup. Are there any radio stations that will let me listen to the games in english? and is free?
Good English-speaking radio stations ? Hi everyone how ya doing ? :) I was born and live in France so English is not my mother tongue and i'd like to better my English. The thing is when you study a language if you do not speak/read/hear it often enough, you start forgetting what you've learnt very fast. As a consequence, i would like you all no matter what country you live in to tell me about good English-speaking radio stations i could listen to on the internet LIVE, possibly radio stations websites that do not cut off all the time haha. Please if you know good radio stations, no matter the country it is located in (USA, England, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, etc....) do not hesitate to post the link of the website thanks to which i could listen to them. At this point, you might be wondering "what kind of radio station is he searching for ? what does he wanna hear/listen to ?" Well, first and foremost i'd like to listen to instructive things to be able to learn while listening to the radio so a radio station whose program (is it the right word ?) revolves around jokes and hosts who do these prank calls things is not what i am searching for right now. When i say "instructive things" what i have in mind is a lot of news (NOT showbiz gossip i hate that !!!!) being discussed by hosts and ideally by people who call the radio station to give their opinion. I'm also referring to radio shows that can help you in you daily life e.g, shows in which people who know what they are talking about discuss sex life (for these shows send me the links via PM as there are people of all ages here), advice about pets, children, all kinds of tips basically. I do not know if my thread is clear. Thanks in advance, have a nice week sweethearts !!!! :) PS: it would be cool if you knew radio stations that broadcast nice artists interviews too. :)
Internet radio tuner? Does anyone know of any free programs that allow you listen to radio stations across the U.S.? Like listen to San Diego stations from Utah? I know some stations have a website with a "listen live" feature, but I'm not talking about that.
Where Can I Get A Radio Style "USB Microphone", Suitable For Live Broadcasting? So I host an internet radio show on http://www.blogtalkradio.com/balambseedg… and one of the problems I have, (apart from never planning the show, and talking total cack for an hour), is that the voice from a PC over Skype sounds terrible. Heh, yeah, I know the shows are generally cack, but that's part of how it goes, ironically. If someone else is calling in, they can hear me fine, but when the show is archived, my voice sounds worse than usual, though anyone calling in sounds fine, (in archive, their voice sounds fine, but mine sounds tinny through Sype). I'm using a Dell XPS720, (though even using an old Packard Bell it sounds the same), and SoundBlaster HS-600 headsets, (the distortion that's sometimes heard is when the headphone is muted at the switch, oddly enough). I was thinkingabout getting a USB-style microphone like this one: http://www.depauw.edu/photos/PhotoDB_Rep… But obviously a working microphone, and not a radio that looks like one. Or even better yet, one that connects to a standard headphone jack. Alternatively, is there a headset similiar to what I'm using with bettersound to it, (since the when someone calls into the show, they can hear me clearly, I believe it may be down to how the show's are archived). I've tried adjusting microphone input levels, but nothing seems to work. Any help would be most appreciated. I don't believe so Frost, do you have one to recommend (preferably either as the "radio" style mentioned above, or a headset with microphone and at least 1 ear-piece.
Do you think eBay's NEW policies will hurt sales? I DO! Take a look at the low bids on this DVD lot http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110282673074&SegalID=110282673074 Normally this lot would be at over $100 by now. (Links included) What do you think of eBay's latest policy changes (September 2008)? When I heard about the feedback changes I was slightly rattled, then when they were actually increasing seller's fees I became more rattled. However, those just rattled by these issues, have not seen anything yet. Now eBay is going to force the seller to accept only Pay-Pal, Pro-Pal or merchant Credit Cards, if a sellers DSR drops below 4.3 they will not be allowed to list new items, and finally if you sell media (DVDs, Books, etc.) eBay will tell you what you can charge for postage, and give most sellers incentives to give away free shipping. Here are the links promised so you can view these changes yourself. A YouTube video where you can hear eBay lie about these changes at the 2008 eBay live conference can be found at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxVsH8zi-A0 And all the eBay radio, townhall audio can be found at: http://www.wsradio.com/internet-talk-radio.cfm/shows/eBay-Town-Hall.html I know we are not going to be able to change eBay's ideas about these major changes but I would like to know what you think about them, and if you have any good links related to this subject please include them with this question. Maybe it is time for people to truly take a look at what is happening to the economy and how big business is allowed to get away with anything and everything they want to. AND no i do not think either McCain nor Obama could fix these problems.
Is there any "Not Sappy" Christian websites? I am looking for a website to help me find God (wow I feel like a sap for even saying that). I know I believe... but every time I want to talk about it, or find information, or be part of any type of organized religion its always "RAWR HERE IS GOD... YOU MUST ACCEPT HIM... BLAH BLAH BLAH!! HE LOVES YOU! LOOOOOVVEESSS YYOOOOUUUU. Jesus is here for you... God is the answer to all... find God in your heart and you will be good". I just am not into that. I simply am looking for a relaxed website with a relaxed live Internet Radio... or podcast and where I can chat with the minister. Just like a real church, but online... and not so "in-your-face".
Negative husband= grumpy old man? I was trying to understand why my husband is so negative and exhausted all the time. I cook great meals, we exercise, have few serious worries, etc. Then it dawned on me: He's "eating" negative ALL THE TIME. Morning: negative talk radio + reading newspapers on internet Drive to work: negative talk radio Lunch: CNN live updates on computer at work Drive home: negative talk radio During dinner: TV news After dinner: reading newspapers via internet Evening: watching negative "newscasts" on youtube Bedtime: falls asleep to TV news. I've talked to him about it and he says he NEEDS all this news to "protect" himself from... the world I guess. How can I make him see that he's becoming a negative, b*tchy, un-fun, unhappy, grumpy old man?? Even when we're out supposedly having fun, he's negative and distracted.
Wireless internet question? so I get wireless internet from radio towers not too far away. Its the only way i am able to get internet. Its very fast usually, but some days its really slow for xbox live. We have an 8mb package i believe. it was the fastest they offered. my question is, if you play a lot of xbox live does it slow the internet down? i know we were told if you use the internet a lot it will eventually get slow. but does xbox live do this? and what are the speeds required to play xbox live? I did a speed test online with my computer and one day it was downloading and uploading about 1500 kbs. Today i tested it and its downloading the same but only uploading about 500 kbs. But the speed test is over 50 miles....and my ping is about 50ms but honestly i barely understand the concept of pings. So is the internet just getting used too much? or should i talk to my ISP? I believe they are Acleryian or something to that extent.
I listen to the radio when I'm at work? I like listening to the news, I'm usually a BBC listener... but today I tried listening to Israeli national radio over the internet.. I was literally shocked at how 'hateful' the talk shows were... referring to all of the population of Gaza as 'terrorists' and similar unprofessional and biased terms. Do you think that the israeli people are intentionally kept (by their government of course) to live in continuous fear promoted by their media, to the convenience of their government? I was listening to israel national radio.. it broadcasts in english

I would love to start talking to them but i dont wana say hi how you doing. Its just so boring and most probably 10 other boys have said it
why does my bf not talk to me? i know girls talk more than guys, but when he is off he plays madden, listen to music, or read about sports on the internet. we don't spend time together or talk. when we first met he would always ask questions about my day and stuff, but not anymore. this is my first time living with my boyfriend, so is it b/c we see each other all the time? he says im on yahoo answers all the time, but thats an excuse. when we are in the car he turns up the radio instead of talking. do poeple just run out of things to say when they live together?
Has the media changed your views? I am glad to see so many people finally raising the point that the media has had a bias out look on the 2008 presidential election. Yahoo! News and many other blogs and election forums have been admitting to the bias coverage on the television, radio, and internet. Talk shows have been the worst. The host of these "talk shows" have been battering the McCain/Palin campaign from the beginning. There has been more stories about Palin's $150,000 wardrobe than there was about Rev. Jeremiah Wright's racist sermon. How many remember the very short lived comment that Obama would not wear the American Flag lapel pin? Or how about Obama's other religious leader with racial views towards Hillary Clinton? These actions only received a one-liner from the talk shows. For those of you old enough to remember, talk show host like David Letterman and Jay Leno did jokes on Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, and Sarah Palin, but not Barrack Obama. Does this mean that black people are off limits, but whites are fair game? It sure seems that way. I don't want to make this election about race (Obama's campaign has already done that). I just want to see each candidate get a fair shake in the political ring. Obama's campaign did do something extremely smart this election, they used the internet and media against there adversaries. They encouraged their supporters (especially young and black) to get on the internet to bash Hillary and McCain while stressing the importance of making history by electing a black man. Obama encouraged young people to vote during his speeches. He knew that the 18 to 30 year old age groups surf the internet a lot. If he could get them to register to vote, then he would have a large group of naive young voters out there just ripe for filling them with false information on the internet. He also knows that the color of his skin is a plus and minus. Some whites declare that they will not vote for a black man while a lot of blacks will vote for Obama for no other reason than the fact that he is black. The black community in general does not care what Obama stands for. They just know that he is black so they want to see him in office. News stations have spent more time on trying to discredit the Republicans than discussing the ideas of the candidates. I am a Republican. I know that my party has been portrayed as a group of screw-ups, but if you take away the propaganda, lies, and media bias then this race would be totally different. People would focus more on which candidate has more experience to lead this country than how much they spent on a blouse and skirt. If the American people will forget about race, gender, age, propaganda, media bias, and all of the other BS that really does not matter, and start focusing of Iraq, the economy, fuel production, environment, job production, and the many other things that concern us as hard working Americans then you would see that there is only one true choice for president. I will not call his name because if you do your own research then you will see who has the ideas and plans that will work.
What does it mean when people say a campaign has a good ground game and organization? Why does that matter? And the money, too. Obama has outspent McCain a kagillion to one, but I really haven't noticed more Obama adds than McCain adds, granted I don't live in a swing state. News talk shows show all the adds from both sides, people can watch the debates, gauge the issues, listen to talk radio, research on the internet........at the end of the day, people have to just make up their own minds and take the initiative to turn out and actually vote. What is the ground game?? Do people actually invade homes and hold guns to their heads and make them vote for a candidate or something? * Thanks Ruston, that was a big help. *Wonderin- I really don't think dragging people to the polls on election day is what organization is all about, but I have to admit, that's what what one would assume by the term ground game. I'm glad it's being cleared up.
cant really talk to my parents about it but i need some advice from a parent.. PLEASE!! Parents of Teenagers!!? My parents don't like him so I'm pretty sure they'd tell me I was right even if I am messing up just because they dont like me being with him, but I feel like I need advice from a parent on the situation because I keep having second thoughts and wanting to call him and tell him im sorry and i want to be with him again because i love him but im not sure its the right thing to do. My boyfriend is 18. When he was 17 he got in trouble for calling in a false bomb threat and for having marijuana so he was sent to live with his Dad. I am also 18 and we are both seniors in high school and after high school we have plans for him to come back here and for us to go to college together and for the last few months since he is living away we have been talking on the phone and the internet and trying to make it work long distance. A couple weeks ago I called him and his friend answered his phone and started telling me he saw my pictures and I was good looking and stuff and when I told him that I wasnt comfortable and I wanted to talk to my boyfriend he said "Well he's drunk and passed out right now." The next day I asked my boyfriend about it and he denied drinking saying he was staying out of trouble and not doing anything like that and he promised me he wouldnt hang out with those friends again because they were just trying to cause trouble. Then today I call him to let him know I got a job I had applied for and that same friend was in the background talking. I didnt want to tell him not to hang out with that friend so I said "I hope you two are staying out of trouble" and he said they were and then his friend kept turning his radio up loud in his truck and I said "Well I cant hear you so I'm going to go." My boyfriend didnt want me to go so he said "No just hold on" and told his friend to turn the radio down. His friend said no and I said "Its okay. Whatever. I'm going to go" so he said "Turn your radio down" and I clearly heard his friend say "No. Forget that b*tch" and he didnt turn it down so I hung up. When he called me back an hour later, he was talking slow like he does when he's been smoking pot and he was making excuses saying his friend didnt really call me that and he kept laughing about it. I told him I didnt want to be with him anymore and that it wasnt working out and he said he loved me and he was sorry but he always says sorry and never changes. He says without me he'll just get in more trouble because he has nobody to be good for. Do you think I'm right to break up with him?

AL TAKIYAH...is really liar liar pants on fire...to mistrust democratic truths and facts....which we r lucky enough to live in.
How to resolve radio interference with neighbors modified CB radio knocking out ALL Wireless Access? My neighbor recently decided that we lived up in BFE and installed a VERY powerful CB radio in his backyard complete with a 40' tall antenna. Needless to say this has caused several issues throughout the household from knocking out Wi-FI access, causing interference on wireless and cell phones, and completely disabling any wireless keyboards or mice throughout the entire house. I have spoken with him at least 3 times on this issue and offered to do what I could to resolve the issue from moving the antenna (which is at most 10 meters from my PC, to anything else I could do. I even offered to give him a laptop (Old yes,, but it works) and to give him free access to my wireless network to open him up to the "wonderful world of the internet". Note that I do live in TN, and while yes,, some here are beer gutted inbred people that would do the world a favor to get a Darwinian award, I cannot wait nor count on that fact. (This guy has a damned tractor in his yard that he bought,,, this is a residential subdivision, where the $@^ are you going to use a damned tractor huh?? It's redneck central in his yard,, the guy even has a wind chime made out of an old hubcap, enough said. So to the point... His transmitter exceeds the guidelines for the power requirements for using a radio device subdivisionntial subdivision. I have already reported him to the FCC 3 times to no avail, and have already called the local police who tell me that there is nothing that they can do for me. If I was to go and cut the line to his antenna, A: he'd know it was me, and B: he would just fix it in 24hours and we would be back to square one. Note that he HAS stopped using it as much as he used to, but it always seems that he has to talk to some trucker on the interstate that that moment when I REALLY need to use my PC. I have a $150 Wireless mouse/keyboard combo,, moving to a wired setup is out of the question for those of you who had that in mind. SO, my question is. Should I A: continue with the FCC and hope they can do anything for me by shutting him down ( He is using an illegal transmitter that is 100 times the power output allowed to be used in a residential subdivision. or B: This is what I had in mind. Build a CB radio jamming device. (Yes I have the technical knowledge to do such a thing) Note that this device would allow him to receive incoming messages, but when he hit transmit he would only receive a squeal of the most annoying sort,, just about what I feel like when my mouse stops working in the middle of a WOW raid or a major company report. (I am aware that I would have to avoid jamming any government or emergency channels like channel 9 etc.) If anyone has had anything of this sort happen I would be happy to hear ALL advice in this matter as to what YOU would do in this situation. While I currently live in TN, I however am not a inbred redneck. If this guy wanted to talk to truckers etc it wouldn'tinterferingas he could do that from a normal CB radio without modifications, however he wants to talk to people in Wyoming apparently, and after 3 talks to him about how badly it was interfering with our devices in the house, he has so far only turned down the transmit power enough so that our cell phones and cordless phones now work (YES it would knock out ALL WIRELESS,, phones,, everything). ATM it just knocks out my wireless keyboards and mice,,and we can hear him talking through my brothers PC's speakers. I thought about maybe recording his conversations over my brothers speakers to see if that would change his mind but I seriously doubt it. This is a beer gut guy living on disability that has built a "Man Cave" shack in his back yard,, has no job,, and gets up about 7am to start his daily CB antics. Sorry for the long rant but I'm at my last nerve with this neighbor. They claim that they are moving to a property they bought some time back, but ti's been 9 months and they are still here,, killing my wireless (and my 6 PC network) internet and killing my PC usage, not to mention putting lots of nice static into ANY wireless device be it a cordless phone, Cell phone or anything else that in anyway uses radio waves to do it's job. Thanks to anyone that has any idea's as to how to resolve this issue. I don't want to create a neighbor that hates me, but at this point, I really am ready to do just that. Thank you for reading this extremely long rant and hope that someone has an idea that will help me with this issue. Thank You All! A: He is living on disability and "bought" the equipment from some other hillbilly etc etc + he has a nice pension,, he has money regardless that he doesn't work. To the other. "Is it legal", obviously not, being that the FCC agreed that any CB radio causing that amount of interference would be considered illegal per FCC guidelines for such a device ONLY operating in this area (They aren't illegal if they are operated more than 100 meters from a residential area). I think I will go with answer three and spend some time with a soldering iron. Note.. Jammers are almost impossible to find unless someone has the equipment (expensive I might add) to track down where it's coming from. It will only interfere when he hits transmit,, IE he'll probably think his equipment is broken, but I'd rather take a different route if possible. I'll go from there, and we'll see what happens :) Any more comment or suggestions from people knowledgeable in this area are welcome! Yes I have confirmed that it is his equipment causing the issue. For one it's not intermittent like you would expect from a comcast leak scanner etc. To verify I actually asked him to disable all equipment,, check all internal devices inside the house,, then had him fire up all equipment he would usually use for whatever it is that he does (I won't go on the rant of hello, there is this thing called the internet you can you that doesn't require 1000 Watts of radio power to talk to people :)). The issues immediately resumed, from the wireless keyboards and mice to the cellphones and cordless phones becoming static filled etc. I've done all manner of troubleshooting to determine that it is in fact him. (BTW if you read above you can HEAR him talking through the CB over my brothers rather cheap PC speakers when he transmits which just happens to be when everything in the house goes out. Note that it Used to knock out the TV's (ON CABLE NOT Antenna's) before he lowered the power.
Where to get AFFORDABLE UNLIMITED phone plans in VEGAS? (talk, msg, web...)? *****I want UN-BIASED answers! Do NOT try to sell me anything! I want unbiased, useful information & NOT sales tactics. Where to get AFFORDABLE UNLIMITED phone plans in VEGAS??? (talk, msg, web...) I am currently located in Las Vegas. I want to know where I can phone plans, that are AFFORDABLE & UNLIMITED. I did some research and I came up with 3. They are: MetroPCS, Cricket, Boost Mobile. Those are the only 3 that came up in my research. I'd like to know the difference b/w those 3: Metro, CricKet, Boost. What I'm looking for: - BlackBerry Curve - Unlimited TALK & TXT - It would be nice if unlimited "pic messaging" is included - Internet access (Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) - Email access (Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail) - IM access (Google Talk, YM, AIM, Windows Live Messenger) - no credit check/contracts/hidden fees At 1st, I was considering Cricket since I heard (on radio, etc.) that they had a "$25/month unlimited talk & txt." But then my online research told me that Metro offers a Blackberry (Curve?) and I REALLY want a BlackBerry...If anything, I care more about having a Blackberry Curve rather than the phone provider (ex: AT&T, Tmobile, etc.) And then what made me lean more towards Metro, is when I heard (on the radio, etc.) that they ALSO offer "$25/month unlimited talk & txt" just like Cricket. After doing some research on Boost, I found out that they ALSO have a BlackBerry Curve (the Curve 8330 like Metro), so they gain 1 point. But they lose 1 point b/c they're the MOST expensive out of the 3, they cost a whopping $60/mo. They lose another 1 point b/c I <just> checked their site a few seconds ago, and they do NOT have the Blackberry avail yet. The Boost website has it listed as "Coming Soon"...that's too bad, b/c I want no NEED a phone now. My other phone won't even work or turn on!..charger won't work/won't charge either! So now, Cricket has 1 point. Metro has 2 points. Boost has 1 (actually -2 or -3 )point. Today is 1/14/2010.
Has anyone set up icecast streaming from Traktor 3 using the icecast server and streamTranscoder? I've got a fully patched copy of Traktor 3 and have been attempting for some time to get it to stream my live mixes out onto an internet radio station that I play on (www.purple-radio.co.uk). Traktor contains ann embedded ices2 client which should be able to talk to an icecast2 server. I'm looking for someone to talk me through the setup as I can't seem to get it working. I've had the icecast server up and running (as I've checked it's status using a web browser) but can't seem to get Traktor to connect. Both programs are hosted on the same machine, so should I use locahost, 127.0.0.1 or my local IP address when setting up the server. Any help appreciated.
I want to set up my own internet radio station? I need to do it for free, as I'm skint xD, but I'm not looking to make any profit out of it. Ive looked about, and all the free ones, you can only upload previously made audio. I want a live talk based one, I don't mind making my computer a dedicated server. How is making my computer a dedicated server illegal?
What is that song that's called: "internet killed the radio star"? I'm not talking about the song Video Killed the Radio Star! I can't really remember the lyrics to the song I'm talking about... I heard it on Live 105 today.... Some more lyrics: "I'm not a good dancer I aint gonna lie but I'll be damned if that means I'm not gonna try"
Has Anyone Checked out BullsEye Radio Oldies station yet? We are BullsEye Radio . An awesome all oldies all the time internet radio station. We have a fantastic selection of music that airs 24 hours a day , 7 days a week , some of it streamed , some of it with LIVE DJ's. Our music doesnt go past 1979. I chose that year as a cutoff date because in my own personal opinion , Music took a nosedive after that year and lost it's OOMPH totally ! Sometimes , change isnt good , and as far as music goes , after 1979 music just went to hell in a handbasket. But ! Thats just my opinion. We have an awesome state of the art Video Chat system which has unlimited users , and Unlimited webcam usage. Extremely fast video! The webcams are totally optional and not required. They are in place there because sometimes people like to see who they are talking to , or want to show off where they live or maybe something beautiful or special they might have acquired. Alot of people think that webcams are used for dirty things and while that may be true in SOME sites , it is not true in our site. We have admins in place that are monitoring for people who come in to just cause problems , or are looking for the nasty stuff , and when they arrive and start , it is seconds and they are banned from the site ! We dont want to be like other chats all across the web , we want to be better ! We want an older , more mature , no head games and silly chatroom drama crowd that doesnt need all the crap like you'll find in all the other places all over the web. A new kind of politics? http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-0704060020apr06,1,1855420.story?coll=chi-news-hed&?track=sto-topstory MEXICANS IN CHICAGO: A NEW KIND OF POLITICS Influence on both sides of the border Activists' political power is rising in Chicago and their homeland, as they seek reforms through marches and money Advertisement By Antonio Olivo and Oscar Avila Tribune staff reporters April 6, 2007 To outsiders, the men and women gathered inside a sleepy West Side restaurant may have seemed unlikely power brokers: a janitor, a real estate agent and others hardly known outside their circuit of neighborhood dances and back-yard barbecues. Jose Luis Gutierrez, who plotted strategy with the group as a soccer match flickered on a nearby TV, was himself a wholesale grocer until last year. But Gutierrez is now a top aide to Gov. Rod Blagojevich, and he was joined at the table by leaders of Chicago-area Mexican immigrant clubs, the engines behind a new political movement that is making itself felt from Illinois to Michoacan. Gutierrez received smiling nods when he likened the political muscle of the region's 563,000 Mexican immigrants to the power of Irish-Americans in the 19th and 20th Centuries, who came to control the Chicago machine. In May, the strength of Mexicans will be on display when many of the region's 300 immigrant clubs -- known as "hometown associations" -- will help organize a march in downtown Chicago a year after their political coming-out party, demonstrations that flooded the Loop last spring and charged the national immigration debate. For decades Mexican hometown associations have functioned as social networks whose members pooled their money earned here to help build new schools or churches back in Mexico. But leaders in Chicago's largest immigrant group have a more ambitious worldview than their predecessors, even more than the ethnic blocs that preceded them decades ago. Some, like Gutierrez, wield growing influence in both countries. One morning, he's unveiling a blueprint for more immigrant services in Illinois as director of the state's Office of New Americans Policy and Advocacy. The next night, he's brainstorming with activists in his home state of Michoacan about a slate of candidates for Mexico's congress. An active role in Mexican politics might seem at odds with building political influence here. But Gutierrez and others say they form a budding new political consciousness among Mexican immigrants -- a "third nation" of sorts that transcends the border, advancing the community's cause on both sides. "The nation-state concept is changing," said Gutierrez, 46, who came to Chicago in 1986 and led one of the Midwest's largest federations of hometown associations. "You don't have to say, `I am Mexican,' or, `I am American.' You can be a good Mexican citizen and a good American citizen and not have that be a conflict of interest. Sovereignty is flexible." That concept worries some U.S. officials and scholars who see the dual loyalty as undermining the assimilation of Mexican immigrants. Irish, German and Polish immigrants eventually melded into Chicago's landscape, their ties to their native soil largely sentimental. But Mexican immigrants today are linked to their homeland like no group before, scholars say, connected by NAFTA, satellite TV, the Internet, cell phones and cheap non-stop flights. In Mexico, their power stems from the nearly $25 billion these immigrants send home every year, the country's second-highest source of income behind oil. Their political influence surfaces in places like Teloloapan, far up in the cactus-filled hills of the state of Guerrero, where a Chicago restaurateur helped build new roads and business. Grateful townspeople elected him mayor in a landslide. In the U.S., immigrants' power is driven by numbers and a growing deftness at the levers of this country's political machinery. That recently manifested itself in a fledgling political action committee called Mexicans for Political Progress, which raised $23,000 for Blagojevich's re-election and rallied volunteers to walk precincts during November's election. An unfolding movement Fabian Morales, a soft-spoken Realtor with a well-clipped mustache, stands at the center of the unfolding movement. He handled logistics for three massive immigration marches in Chicago last year -- including a four-day walk to suburban Batavia -- and co-founded Mexicans for Political Progress. After coming to Chicago in 1970, Morales helped launch one of the city's then-few hometown clubs, devoted to his tiny native village of Xonacatla, Guerrero. Back then, Xonacatla was without roads, potable water or electricity. It was a slow journey from other towns by foot or horseback, Morales said. The club members in Chicago resolved to change that. Collecting $50 to $100 at a time, Morales and others raised enough through barbecues and door-to-door soliciting to replace a house used for worship services with a towering marble church that rises from the green hillside. Morales has since helped develop CONFEMEX, an umbrella organization for most of the hometown clubs in the Midwest. Among other things, the group is a central voice in economic development in Mexico, representing an estimated $340 million in projects generated by U.S.-based hometown associations in the last five years, according to Mexican federal officials. "We want to focus on creating more jobs there so they don't have to think about emigrating," Morales said. The rising activity of hometown associations caught the eye of the Mexican government, which eventually created a "3-for-1" matching project, where federal, state and local governments split the cost of a new bridge or computer center with the U.S.-based groups. Those projects have given Mexican immigrants "a great moral authority" in their homeland, as well as political cachet, said Carlos Gonzalez, executive director of the Institute for Mexicans in the Exterior, or IME, a Mexican federal government agency that fosters stronger ties with expatriates. "During the 1970s, [Mexicans] called the people who left Mexico and acclimated to the U.S. 'pocho,' which, if you look in the dictionary, means 'spoiled fruit,' " Gonzalez said. "The change we've seen in the public perception of Mexicans in the exterior has been 180 degrees." In 2006, citizens abroad were allowed to vote in Mexican presidential elections for the first time. Leaders are also pushing for changes that would allow expatriates to vote in local elections and even hold elective offices while residing abroad. Recently, Gutierrez and others persuaded Michoacan to become the first state in Mexico to extend voting rights to expatriates. Their rationale: Almost half of those born in Michoacan, Zacatecas and several other Mexican states now live in the U.S. Timoteo "Alex" Manjarrez, 44, is among a small but growing number of Mexican immigrants making a bolder claim in their motherland. Arriving from his native town of Teloloapan, Guerrero, in 1980, Manjarrez spent 19 years in Chicago. The stocky, boyish-looking immigrant worked for years as a dishwasher at the Columbia Yacht Club and, eventually, became owner of three Mexican restaurants in the city. Fulfilling a desire shared by many immigrants, Manjarrez moved back to his native town in 1999 with enough money for his family to live comfortably. But the place he had longed for all those years was still frustratingly poor, despite the investments Manjarrez's hometown club made in new roads and other improvements. Manjarrez, who holds both Mexican and U.S. citizenship, settled in and quickly built a new health club and a hacienda-style restaurant named La Condesa, after the three he still owns in Chicago. In 2004, he ran for mayor of Teloloapan. With long-distance backing from his hometown club friends in Chicago, who sent money and telephoned friends and local officials on his behalf, Manjarrez won handily. 'The city that works' Since taking office, the man who sees Mayor Richard M. Daley as a political role model has pushed to remake Teloloapan into a Mexican version of "the city that works." The effort includes newly paved streets, a recreation center that replaces a local swamp known as "black waters," and a towering hotel being built privately by Manjarrez's family. Next to a new medical clinic, a donated Chicago ambulance sits in the parking lot. Its emblem has been painted over, but it serves as a reminder of the continued links Manjarrez has to his former city, where he maintains a home near Midway Airport, votes in U.S. elections and checks in on his businesses. Aurelio Santamaria Bahena, mayor of a town near Manjarrez's called Tlapehuala, labeled such changes "a blessing" for an area of Mexico dominated by crumbling lean-to houses and children in bare feet pulling bone-thin donkeys. But, as with other parts of the country where the immigrant handprint is deepening, the introduction of U.S.-style governance has also bred resentment. Local leaders of Manjarrez's own Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) are trying to drum him out of office, arguing he is too brash and condescending. The mayor counters the fight is about his efforts to take away "a plate of corruption that they've been able to eat from for years." The conflict was an uncomfortable backdrop during a recent PRD strategy meeting at a restaurant in Chilpancingo, Guerrero's capital. Headlines that morning featured a march against Manjarrez, orchestrated by his opponents. "People see you as an outsider," a worried Santamaria cautioned Manjarrez. "People don't think you see things as they are here." Manjarrez, wearing a black "La Condesa" windbreaker, patted his friend on the back and smiled. He had a media plan, one that might have made Daley proud. "We'll publish photos of the streets of Teloloapan before and after I came into office," Manjarrez said. "And, we'll ask the people: `Which would you prefer?' " That same week, Mexican immigrants from the U.S. and Canada met in Mexico City, as members of an advisory council created by the Mexican government. With a brash American style, they soon escalated their advice to demands, the members' voices echoing through the meeting hall. Morales, the Chicago Realtor, and about 100 other council members pushed Mexico to lobby the U.S. harder on immigration reform. They chastised their hosts for not creating more jobs. Buttonholing federal legislators in hallways, they reminded elected officials how much their districts relied on money sent from the U.S. They want 'results now' Gregorio Luke, a blond member of the council from Los Angeles partial to designer suits, observed that this kind of behavior wouldn't exist in a purely Mexican forum, where deference toward authority guides nearly all dialogue. "These people come here speaking Spanish, but they're negotiating as Americans," said Luke, a museum director who once oversaw cultural affairs at the Los Angeles Mexican Consulate. "They want to see results now." The meeting of the advisory council also illustrated the provocative overlap of Mexican and American political action. In addition to all-day strategy sessions on how to improve Mexico, council members brainstormed over late-night drinks on next moves in the fight for U.S. immigration reform. Many members had used their existing e-mail network to coordinate simultaneous demonstrations in Chicago, Los Angeles and other cities. Though not active participants in the U.S. immigrant movement, Mexican officials urged their compatriots to keep on fighting. "Let there be no barriers or walls between Mexicans here on the inside and the outside," former Mexican President Vicente Fox told the group, referring to a 2006 U.S. law that allows for a 700-mile fence to be built at the border. The audience stood and cheered. The idea that the Mexican government might be helping its nationals shape U.S. politics has raised red flags, both in the halls of academia and in the more volatile world of talk radio and the Internet. Robert Leiken, director of the immigration and national security program at the right-leaning Nixon Center in Washington, argued that binational activism among Mexican immigrants is bad for both countries. In the U.S., the meetings in Spanish and the often-passionate interest in Mexico's future hinder assimilation, he said. In Mexico, the relationship to hometown associations fosters an unhealthy economic dependence on U.S. remittances. "If I went out to Pilsen and spent some time with people from a hometown association, I'd think these are really cool people," Leiken said. But, "Standing back and looking at this from a social policy standpoint, I see some real problems." James McCann, a Purdue University political science professor, found that immigrants interested in Mexican affairs were more likely to participate in U.S. politics. He helped interview about 1,100 Mexican immigrants and found that hometown clubs promoted activism. "The conventional wisdom is that any transnational engagement is going to suck the oxygen out of your civic life in the States," McCann said. "But it seems that if you open a new avenue of expression in Mexico, that new avenue might pay some other dividends in the U.S." Some of those dividends went directly to the Blagojevich campaign last fall, when the governor found himself being serenaded by a trumpet-playing mariachi band inside the Hacienda Tecalitlan restaurant on the Near Northwest Side. Near a trickling courtyard fountain, Morales praised the governor in Spanish at the kickoff dinner for the Mexicans for Political Progress PAC. While Morales once raised money for his hometown with $1 tamales, the price here was as much as $500 a plate. "Let us demonstrate our political power by voting in the election, by voting for our friends interested in the prosperity of Mexicans. Friends like Gov. Rod Blagojevich!" Morales told the crowd. Blagojevich, who speaks a hint of Spanish, took the microphone and shouted: "Viva Chivas!" a reference to a popular Mexican soccer team. When the laughter and applause subsided, he switched to English and added: "By organizing, you are empowering a community. Your voice will be heard." The mood is darker in northwest suburban Carpentersville, where a growing Mexican community has rallied in large numbers in the face of a local backlash against undocumented immigrants. Last fall, about 3,000 Mexican immigrants and their supporters turned up outside Carpentersville's City Hall in an unexpected show of opposition to a proposed ordinance that would penalize landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and employers who hire them. The crowd was so riled a vote on the ordinance was postponed and has yet to be taken. The quick response came largely due to the hometown association representing the village of La Purisima, Michoacan, local activists said. The club turned to its telephone list of 400 families, said Salvador Balleno, the group's president. The turnout was a victory, but it has not deterred Carpentersville trustees from other proposals that would allow local police to trigger deportation proceedings against illegal immigrants and make English the village's official language. And as Balleno has struggled to register voters and rally volunteers for this month's village elections, even sympathetic politicians have seemed hesitant to link themselves too closely with the hometown association. Balleno now fears the village's hard-liners have the upper hand, intimidating some of the immigrants who protested last fall. "The [club] members know that if these people stay [in office] it is going to affect their kids," Balleno said, sounding anxious that an opportunity was slipping through his fingers. Jose Artemio Arreola, a key organizer of next month's march in Chicago, has been actively monitoring the battle in Carpentersville. He sees the activity there as part of a plan to create a political empire for Mexican immigrants, one linking hometown associations in Chicago and other cities to labor unions and Mexico's congress. His strategy includes moving back to his native state of Michoacan to run for congress there, something Arreola never imagined doing when he left a town overrun by poverty and ruled by local drug kingpins. He got his start in Chicago working in a plastics factory. Frustrated by the union representation there, he ran for shop steward and won. Unable to speak English, he relied on his bilingual co-workers to help him negotiate union contracts. He has since become a school janitor in Oak Park. The position pays little, but it has allowed Arreola to climb the ranks of the Service Employees International Union, where he has become key in that union's national efforts to tap further into the country's exploding Mexican immigrant workforce. All the while, Arreola has used the sharp elbows and old-school union tactics acquired in Chicago to become a power broker in his hometown of Acuitzio del Canje. He started in 2004 when the local mayor refused to back projects proposed by his hometown association. Arreola, a burly backslapper partial to gold neck chains, recalled thinking: "I need to take them out." He recruited a teacher to run for mayor in the Mexican town. Arreola then brought back a town phone book and, with others in Chicago, called voters one by one, promising a stream of U.S. investment if his candidate won. The incumbent opted for traditional rallies and car tours through town with a bullhorn. More than two years later, sitting in a Pilsen restaurant, Arreola opened a laptop computer and showed off the fruits of what proved to be an easy victory. Pictures of a new retirement home popped onto the screen, one featuring a grinning Arreola at a groundbreaking ceremony. Another showed a new computer lab with 40 computers for local schoolchildren, an investment in the future of Acuitzio del Canje. The town's name comes from an 1865 decision to make it the site for a "canje," or exchange of prisoners between warring Mexican and French troops. Sitting deep in the dusty mountains of Michoacan, it was neutral ground back then, Arreola explained, territory that didn't fully belong to either country but, in some ways, belonged to both. ---------- aolivo@tribune.com oavila@tribune.com - - - IN THE WEB EDITION Jose Artemio Arreola is one of several Mexican hometown association leaders in Chicago with multiple connections in Mexico and the U.S. From helping organize last year's massive immigration marches to slating political candidates in his home state, he wields influence on both sides of the border. How Should Deal With Stress and Anxiety ? Stress is life. Stress is anything that causes mental, physical, or spiritual tension. There is no running away from it. All that matters is how you deal with it. This article does not deal with the factors of stress, anxiety, and depression, nor is it a clinical advice. If you feel depressed, you are not alone. It has been estimated that 75 to 90 percent of all visits to primary care physicians in America are for stress-related problems. This is why it is wise to consult a doctor if you are having physical symptoms of stress. However, here are some tips that can help from a spiritual perspective. Torture. Beatings. Loss of property. The death of loved ones. These were just some of the enormous challenges the Muslims of Makkah faced in the seventh century following their acceptance of Islam in fiercely tribal and polytheistic Makkah. Detention. Harassment. Beatings. Discrimination. Loss of Job. Profiling. Hate Crimes. Constant media attention. Surveillance. These are just some of the challenges Muslims in America today face, post-9/11. Like our predecessors in Makkah, we have begun to face great stress, anxiety, and pressure, more than ever in our recent history on this continent, although Muslims who were brought here as slaves faced worse than what we can even imagine. 1. Ask Him. He Listens: DU`A Turn each anxiety, each fear and each concern into a Dua (supplication). Look at it as another reason to submit to God and be in Sajdah (prostration), during which you are closest to Allah. God listens and already knows what is in your heart, but He wants you to ask Him for what you want. The Prophet said: Allah is angry with those who do not ask Him for anything (Tirmidhi). The Prophet once said that in prayer, he would find rest and relief (Nasai). He would also regularly ask for God's forgiveness and remain in prostration during prayer praising God (Tasbeeh) and asking for His forgiveness (Bukhari). Allah wants you to be specific. The Prophet advised us to ask Allah for exactly what we want instead of making vague Duas. Dua is the essence of worship (the Prophet as quoted in Tirmidhi). "Call on your Lord with humility and in private: for Allah loveth not those who trespass beyond bounds. Do not make mischief on the earth, after it hath been set in order, but call on Him with fear. And longing (in your hearts): for the mercy of Allah is (always) near to those who do good" (Quran 7:55-56). 2. Tie your Camel: DO YOUR PART One day Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, noticed a Bedouin leaving his camel without tying it. He asked the Bedouin, "Why don't you tie down your camel?" The Bedouin answered, "I put my trust in Allah." The Prophet then said, "Tie your camel first, then put your trust in Allah" (Tirmidhi). Muslims must never become fatalistic. Although we know only Allah is in control and that He has decreed all things, we are each responsible for making the right choices and doing the right thing in all situations of our lives. We must take action (link to planning articles on SV). We must work to alleviate the hardships we, our families and our communities face. Ask yourself the following questions if you are worried about the state of the world: are you part of the peace movement? Is your Masjid part of the peace movement? Are you part of an interfaith group with an agenda of peace and justice? Are you working with a group fighting discrimination? If your answer is no, it is time that you sat down to plan your share of time and money in finding solutions to the problems you face. "Verily Allah does not change men's condition unless they change their inner selves" (Quran 13: 11). Turn each worry into a Du`a and each Du`a into an action plan. That will show your commitment to your request and will focus your energy in the right direction. 3. Remember that human responsibility is limited While we need to carry out our duty to the best of our abilities, always remember that you don't control the outcome of events. Even the Prophets did not control the outcome of their efforts. Some were successful, others were not. Once you have done your duty, leave the results to Allah. Regardless of the results of your efforts, you will be rewarded for the part you have played. However, never underestimate your abilities. Understand the concept of Barakah (blessings from Allah) and remember that Allah can and Insha Allah will expand them if you are sincerely exerting your energies for the right path. 4. Leave the world behind you FIVE TIMES A DAY Use the five daily prayers as a means to become more Hereafter-oriented and less attached to this temporary world. Start distancing yourself as soon as you hear Adhan, the call to prayer. When you perform Wudu, keep repeating Shahada, the declaration of faith, as water drops slip down your face, hands, arms, and hair. When you stand ready to pray, mentally prepare yourself to leave this world and all of its worries and stresses behind you. Of course, Shaytan will try to distract you during prayer. But whenever this happens, go back and remember Allah. The more you return, the more Allah will reward you for it. Also, make sure your Sajdas (prostrations) are talking Sajdas, in which you are really connecting to God and seeking His Mercy, praising Him, and asking His forgiveness. (link to Sajda article...ramadan page) 5. Seek help through SABR Seek help through Sabr and Salat (Quran 2:45). This instruction from Allah provides us with two critical tools that can ease our worries and pain. Patience and prayer are two oft-neglected stressbusters. Sabr is often translated as patience but it is not just that. It includes self-control, perseverance, endurance, and a focused struggle to achieve one's goal. Unlike patience, which implies resignation, the concept of Sabr includes a duty to remain steadfast to achieve your goals despite all odds. Being patient gives us control in situations where we feel we have little or no control. 'We cannot control what happens to us but we can control our reaction to our circumstances' is the mantra of many modern-day self-help books. Patience helps us keep our mind and attitude towards our difficulties in check. 6. Excuse Me! You are Not Running the World, HE is. It is important to remind ourselves that we don't control all the variables in the world. God does. He is the Wise, the All-Knowing. Sometimes our limited human faculties are not able to comprehend His wisdom behind what happens to us and to others, but knowing that He is in control and that as human beings we submit to His Will, enriches our humanity and enhances our obedience (Uboodiah in Arabic) towards him. Read the story of the encounter of Moses with the mysteries behind God's decision (Quran: 18:60-82). Familiarize yourself with God's 99 Names, which are also known as His Attributes. It is a powerful way of knowing Him. "God-there is no deity save Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsistent Fount of All being. Neither slumber overtakes Him, nor sleep. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth. Who is there that could intercede with Him, unless it be by His leave? He knows all that lies open before men and all that is hidden from them, whereas they cannot attain to aught of His knowledge save that which He wills them to attain. His eternal power overspreads the heavens and the earth, and their upholding wearies Him not. And He alone is truly exalted, tremendous." (Quran 2:255). The Prophet recommended reading this verse, known as Ayat al kursi, after each prayer, Allah's peace and blessings be upon him. Once Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, approached the Prophet during a difficult time and he found the Prophet in Sajda, where he kept repeating "Ya Hayy Ya Qayyum", words which are part of this verse. 7. Birds Don't Carry their Food Allah is al Razzaq (the Provider). "How many are the creatures that carry not their own sustenance? It is Allah Who feeds them and you, for He hears and knows all things (Quran 29:60)." By reminding yourself that He is the Provider, you will remember that getting a job or providing for your family in these economically and politically challenging times, when Muslims are often the last to be hired and the first to be fired, is in God's Hands, not yours. As Allah says in the Quran: "And He provides for him from (sources) he never could imagine. And if anyone puts his trust in Allah, sufficient is (Allah) for him. For Allah will surely accomplish His purpose. Verily, for all things has Allah appointed a due proportion (Quran 65:3). 8. God controls Life and Death If you fear for your physical safety and security, remember that only Allah gives life and takes it back and, that He has appointed the time for it. No one can harm you except if Allah wills. As He says in the Quran: "Wherever you are, death will find you out, even if you are in towers built up strong and high!" (Quran 4:78). 9. Remember that life is short It's easy to get caught up in our own stress and anxiety. However, if we remember that our life is short and temporary, and that the everlasting life is in the Hereafter, this will put our worries in perspective. This belief in the transitory nature of the life of this world reminds us that whatever difficulties, trials, anxieties, and grief we suffer in this world are, Insha Allah, something we will only experience for a short period of time. And more importantly, if we handle these tests with patience, Allah will reward us for it. 10. Do Zikr, Allah, Allah! "... without doubt in the remembrance (Zikr) of Allah do hearts find tranquility" (Quran 13:28). If you commute, use your time in Zikr. Pick any Tasbeeh and do that instead of listening to the radio or reading the newspaper. Maybe you can divide it up between Zikr and planning. Personally, I recite the Tasbeeh of "Subhana Allahe wa be hamdihi, subhan Allahil Azeem" 100 times as I drive. The Prophet taught us these two short phrases which are easy to say but will weigh heavy on our scale of good deeds in the Hereafter. When your heart feels heavy with stress or grief, remember Allah and surround yourself with His Zikr. Zikr refers to all forms of the remembrance of Allah, including Salat, Tasbeeh, Tahmeed, Tahleel, making supplication (Dua), and reading Quran. "And your Lord says: 'Call on Me; I will answer your (prayer)..." (Quran 40:60) By remembering Allah in the way He has taught us to, we are more likely to gain acceptance of our prayers and His Mercy in times of difficulty. We are communicating with the only One Who not only Hears and Knows all, but Who can change our situation and give us the patience to deal with our difficulties. "Remember Me, and I shall remember you; be grateful to Me, and deny Me not" (Quran 2:152). 11. Relying on Allah: Tawakkul When you awaken in the morning, thank Allah for giving you life after that short death called sleep. When you step out of your home, say 'in Your Name Allah, I put my trust in Allah, and there is no power or force except with Allah' (Bismillahi Tawakal to al Allah wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah). At night, remember Allah, with His praises on your lips. Once you have established a plan you intend to follow through on to deal with a specific issue or problem in your life, put your trust in the most Wise and the All-Knowing. "When you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allah" (Quran 3: 159). Rely on Allah by constantly remembering Him throughout your day. When you lay down to sleep, remember that sleep is death. That is why one of the recommended supplications before going to sleep is "with Your (Allah's) Name I die and become alive". 12. Connect with other human beings You are not alone. Muslims are not alone. We are not suffering in silence. There are millions of good people who are not Muslim with beautiful hearts and minds. These are people who have supported us, individually and collectively, post-9/11, by checking up on us and making sure we are safe. These are individuals and organizations who have spoken up in defense of Muslims as we endured harassment and discrimination. We must think of them, talk to them, connect with them, and pray for them. Through our connections, we will break the chain of isolation that leads to depression and anxiety. 13. Compare your dining table with that of those who don't have as much as you do The Prophet said: Whenever you see someone better than you in wealth, face or figure, you should look at someone who is inferior to you in these respects (so that you may thank Allah for His blessings) (Bukhari, Muslim). Next time you sit down to eat, eye the table carefully. Check out the selection of food, the quality, the taste, the quantity, and then think of the millions of others who don't have even half as much. The Prophet's Hadith reminds us of this so that we can appreciate and thank God for all that we have. Also remember that the Prophet only encouraged us to compare ourselves to others in two respects: in our Islamic knowledge and level of belief in God (Deen). In these two areas, we should compare ourselves with those who have more than what we do. 14. Say it Loud: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar: Takbirat & Adhan Find a corner of a lake, go out in the wilderness, or even stand on your lawn at your home and call the Adhan with your heart. While driving, instead of listening to the same news over and over again, say Allahu Akbar as loudly as you can or as softly as you want, based on your mood. Year ago, I remember calling Adhan on a Lake Michigan shore in Chicago after sunset as the water gushed against my knees. I was calling it for myself. There was no one else accept the waves after waves of water with their symphony. It was relaxing and meaningful. Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. 15. Pray in congregation (Jamat) Pray with other people instead of alone. If you can't pray all five prayers in congregation, at least find one or two prayers you can pray with others. If you are away, establish Jamat in your own family. During the Prophet's time, even though the Muslims endured great persecution, including physical beatings, they would sometimes meet on the side of a mountain or valley and tried to pray together. This is a great morale booster. 16. How is your Imam's Dua? Does the Imam at your local mosque make Dua silently or out loud? Ask him to supplicate with the whole congregation. Suggest Duas for him to make. Ask him to make Dua for other people. 17. Work for the Unity of Muslims Bringing Muslims together will not only help the Muslims, but it will also encourage you to focus your energies on something constructive versus zeroing in on and consistently fretting about difficulties you are going through. Invite Muslims from other ethnic groups to your functions. Visit Masjids other than yours in your city. When you meet a Muslim leader, after thanking him for his efforts, ask him what he is doing for Muslim unity. Ask Imams to make Dua for this. These are just small ways you can help yourself and the Muslim community. 18. Sleep the way the Prophet slept End your day on a positive note. Make Wudu, then think of your day. Thank Allah for all the good things you accomplished, like Zikr and Salat. Ask yourself what you did today to bring humanity together and what you did to help Muslims become servants of humanity. For everything positive, say Alhamdu lillah (Praise be to Allah). For everything negative say Astaghfirullah wa atoobo ilayk (I seek Allah's forgiveness and I turn to You [Allah]). Recite the last two chapters of the Quran, thinking and praying as you turn on your right side with your hand below your right cheek, the way the Prophet used to sleep. Then close your day with the name of Allah on your tongue. Insha Allah, you will have a good, restful night. 19. Begin the Day on a Positive Note Get up early. Get up thanking God that He has given you another day. Alhamdu lillahil lazi ahyana bada ma amatana, wa ilaihin Nushoor (Praise be to Allah Who gave us life after death and unto Him will be the return). Invest in an audio tape driven alarm clock so you can get up to the melody of the Quran. Or Let Dawud Wharnsby's joyful notes put you in a good mood. Sing along if you like. Develop your to do list for the day if you didn't do it the night before. Begin with the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing in the heavens or the earth can hurt you. He is the Highest and the Greatest. (Bismillahillazi la yazurru maa ismihi shaiun fil arze wa la fis samae, wahuwal Alee ul Azeem). The Prophet used to say this after every Fajr and Maghrib prayers. 20. Avoid Media Overexposure: Switch from News to Books Don't spend too much time checking out the news on the radio, television or internet. Spend more time reading good books and journals. When you listen to the persistent barrage of bad news, especially relating to Muslims nowadays, you feel not only depressed, but powerless. Cut down media time to reduce your stress and anxiety. It's important to know what's going on but not to an extent that it ruins your day or your mood. (similarly, when you are in a sad mood, refrain from wallowing and listening to sad songs) 21. Pray for Others to Heal Yourself. The Prophet was always concerned about other people, Muslims and non-Muslims, and would regularly pray for them. Praying for others connects you with them and helps you understand their suffering. This in itself has a healing component to it. The Prophet has said that praying for someone who is not present increases love. 22. Make the Quran your Partner Reading and listening to the Quran will help refresh our hearts and our minds. Recite it out loud or in a low voice. Listen to it in the car. When you are praying Nafl or extra prayers, pick it up and use it to recite portions of the Quran you are not as familiar with. Connecting to the Quran means connecting to God. Let it be a means to heal your heart of stress and worries. Invest in different recordings of the Quran and their translations. "O humanity! There has come to you a direction from your Lord and a cure for all [the ills] in men's hearts - and for those who believe, a Guidance and a Mercy" (Quran 10:57). 23. Be thankful to Allah "If you are grateful, I will give you more" (Quran 14:7). Counting our blessings helps us not only be grateful for what we have, but it also reminds us that we are so much better off than millions of others, whether that is in terms of our health, family, financial situation, or other aspects of our life. And being grateful for all we have helps us maintain a positive attitude in the face of worries and challenges we are facing almost daily. 24. Ideals: ONE STEP AT A TIME Ideals are wonderful things to pursue. But do that gradually. Think, prioritize, plan, and move forward. One step at a time. 25. EFFORTS not Results Count in the Eyes of Allah Our success depends on our sincere efforts to the best of our abilities. It is the mercy of Allah that He does not demand results, Alhamdu lillah. Why do New York sports fans like living in the past? Why this talk of Ewing and the 1985 NBA Draft on MSG? You did not like Ewing when he was in New York. Now Jets fans want to throw Favre out of town after just one season. New York sports teams are overrated and their better days are a long way from 2009. Thank God for the DirecTV and the Internet and sports radio, ESPN. I cannot stand New York sports or their arrogant fan base.
Will the republicans solve their internal immigration dispute by 09 ? The immigration question is strictly a republican issue, so when will they resolve it ? There will never be mass deportations, so the only options are the current system, in which undocumented citizens stay here without documentation, or a plan where they stay here and are put on a path to citizenship. Either way, they stay, so the right wing bigot nut jobs, nazi kooks, and trailer trash crackers are not even a factor in the discussion. They will just keep on whining and yelling idiotic bumper sticker slogans like .."Duhhhhhh,,,no Amnisty !!!.duhhhh..now gimme a beer...Buuuuurp" and whine and blatt on the internet and on idiot Nazi right wing talk radio No one cares what they think, and they are irrelavant. So will the Republicans come up with a plan by 09, or will the Dems, once they pick up 3 or 4 more senate seats and 7 or 8 more house seats, along with the White house, have to inact a plan in 2009, that the republicans will have to live with, whether they like it or not ? Ron Paul is a right wing kook..next ? You were doing well brian, until the end. hate to break it to you dude, but the GOP is in long term DEEP trouble. The population migration, trends of young voters, and the republican partiy being hi jacked by right wing extremeist kooks, have assured a DEM majority for the next 20 to 25 years.
What happened to the "American Christian Republican Voter" that everyone lived in fear of? If you recall 2000 - the media was all abuzz about this mythical creature that was going to ensure a win for George W. Bush. Skeptics on the internet and left-wing talk radio ran out of breath warning people that GW would resume his fathers war with Iraq... then they found themselves being accused of "immorally supporting anti-Americanism". But where are all these legions of Christian Republicans when a Baptist Minister from the old south is trying to get elected? Did they disappear? Have they gone underground to lick their wounds? Or did they never really exist in the numbers that the GOP would have us believe?

How to cope with the negative news? This may sound ridiculous, but all the negative press is really taking a toll on me. It's not like I can avoid it. If I'm watching a sitcom, a news brief will come on with some negative news story. If I'm driving in the car listening to the radio, a negative news story will come on. If I'm in the office, they're talking about the horrific news. If I load the internet, it's front page news, all the drama around the world. I could stick my head in the sand, which is what most people will tell me to do. I would rather live in society like a person, but I can't get all the negative imagery and stories out of my head. Even my email in-box has drama in it. The family is talking about the horrible news around the world, the newspaper is right in the front of the store when I get my morning coffee. My question is, how can I possibly live my life and not be turned upside down by the constant negative pounding of the news everywhere I turn? How do I do it?
Advice to Young Men from an Old Man ? what would you take? 1. Don’t pick on the weak. It’s immoral. Don’t antagonize the strong without cause, its stupid. 2. Don’t hate women. It’s a waste of time 3. Invest in yourself. Material things come to those that have self actualized. 4. Get in a fistfight, even if you are going to lose. 5. As a former Marine, take it from me. Don’t join the military, unless you want to risk getting your balls blown off to secure other people’s economic or political interests. 6. If something has a direct benefit to an individual or a class of people, and a theoretical, abstract, or amorphous benefit to everybody else, realize that the proponent’s intentions are to benefit the former, not the latter, no matter what bullshit they try to feed you. 7. Don’t be a Republican. They are self-dealing crooks with no sense of honor or patriotism to their fellow citizens. If you must be a Republican, don’t be a “conservative.” They are whining, bitching, complaining, simple-minded self-righteous idiots who think they’re perpetual victims. Listen to talk radio for a while, you’ll see what I mean. 8. Don’t take proffered advice without a critical analysis. 90% of all advice is intended to benefit the proponent, not the recipient. Actually, the number is probably closer to 97%, but I don’t want to come off as cynical. 9. You’ll spend your entire life listening to people tell you how much you owe them. You don’t owe the vast majority of people shit. 10. Don’t undermine your fellow young men. Mentor the young men that come after you. Society recognizes that you have the potential to be the most power force in society. It scares them. Society does not find young men sympathetic. They are afraid of you, both individually and collectively. Law enforcement’s primary purpose is to suppress you. 11. As a young man, you’re on your own. Society divides and conquers. Unlike women who have advocates looking out for them (NOW, Women’s Study Departments, government, non-profit organizations, political advocacy groups) almost no one is looking out for you. 12. Young men provide the genius and muscle by which our society thrives. Look at the Silicone Valley. By in large, it was not old men or women that created the revolution we live. Realize that society steals your contributions, secures it with our intellectual property laws, and then takes credit and the rewards where none is due. 13. Know that few people have your best interests at heart. Your mother does. Your father probably does (if he stuck around). Your siblings are on your side. Everybody else worries about themselves. 14. Don’t be afraid to tell people to “Fuck off” when need be. It is an important skill to acquire. As they say, speak your piece, even if your voice shakes. 15. Acquire empathy, good interpersonal skills, and confidence. Learn to read body language and non-verbal communication. Don’t just concentrate on your vocational or technical skills, or you’ll find your wife fucking somebody else. 16. Keep fit. 17. Don’t speak ill of your wife/girlfriend. Back her up against the world, even if she’s wrong. She should know that you have her back. When she needs your help, give it. She should know that you’ll take her part. 18. Don’t cheat on your wife/girlfriend. If you must cheat, don’t humiliate her. Don’t risk having your transgressions come back to her or her friends. Don’t do it where you live. Don’t do it with people in your social circle. Don’t shit in your own back yard. 19. If your girlfriend doesn’t make you feel good about yourself and bring joy to your life, fire her. That’s what girlfriends are for. 20. Don’t bother with “emotional affairs.” They are just a vehicle for women to flirt and have someone make them feel good about themselves. That’s the part of a relationship they want. For you it is a lot of work and investment in time. If they are having an emotional affair with you, they’re probably fucking someone else. 21. Becoming a woman’s friend and confidant is not going to get you into an intimate relationship. If you haven’t gotten the girl within a reasonably short period of time, chances are you won’t ever get her. She’ll end up confiding to you about the sexual adventures she’s having with someone else. 22. Have and nurture friendships with women. 23. Realize that love is a numbers game. Guys fall in love easily. You’re going to see some girl and feel like you’ll die if you don’t get her. If she rejects you, move on to the next one. It’s her loss. 24. Don’t be an internet troll. Got out and live life. There is not a cadre of beautiful women advertising on Craigslist to have NSA sex with you. Beautiful women don’t need to advertise. The websites that advertise with attractive women’s photos and claims of loneliness are baloney. All they want is your money and your personal information so that they can market to you. The posts on Craigslist by young “women” seeking NSA sex, and asking for a picture are just a bunch of gay troll pic collectors. This is especially true if the post uses common gay lexicon like “hole” as in “fuck my hole” or seeks “masculine” men, or uses the word cock (except in the context of “Don’t send a cock shot.”) There are women on Craigslist. They are easily recognizable by their 2-5 paragraph postings. Most are in their 30's or older. 25. When you become a man in full, know that people will get in your way. People who are attracted to you will somehow manage to step in your path. Gay guys will give you “the look.” Old people will somehow stumble in front of you at the worst time. Don’t get frustrated. Just step aside and go about your business. Know that these are passive aggressive methods to get you to acknowledge their existence. 26. Don’t gay bash. Don’t mentally or physically abuse people because of who they are, or how they present themselves. It’s none of your business to try to intimidate people into conformity. 27. If your gay, admit it to yourself, your parents, your friends and society at large. Be prepared to get harassed. See rule 14. If someone threatens you or assaults you, call the cops. Have them arrested. You have no obligation to self sacrifice because of who you are. As a gay person, you’ll have more social freedom than straight men. Use it to protect yourself. Be prepared to get out of Dodge if your orientation makes your life unbearable. Move to San Francisco, New York, Atlanta, or New Orleans. You’ll find a welcoming community there. 28. Don’t be a poser. Avoid being one of those dudes who puts a surfboard on top of their car, but never surfs, or a dude with a powder coated fixed gear bike and a messenger bag, but was never a messenger. Live the life. Earn your bona fides. 29. Don’t believe the crap about the patriarchy. More women are accepted and attend college. More degrees are awarded to women than men. Women outlive men. More men commit suicide. Men are twice as likely to be victims of violence, including murder. If you consider sexual assaults in prisons, twice as many men are raped as women (society thinks prison rape is funny). The streets are littered with homeless men, sprinkled with a few homeless women. Statically, women are happier than men. The myth that girls are being cheated by are educational system is belied by the fact that schools are bastions of femininity, mostly run by and taught by women. Girls outperform boys in school. It is the boys in school getting fucked over, and prescribed ritalin for being boys. Real wages for men are falling, while real wages for women are rising. Just because someone says something enough times, doesn’t make it true. You have nothing to feel guilty about. 30. Remember, 97% of all advice is worthless. Take what you can use, and trash the rest. vicioustwist san francisco 02-15-07
Song name? Heard on the radio...? Recently, i heard a song on the radio which im trying to find on the internet. It sounded quite good and fairly upbeat if that helps :S It was sung by this woman who sounded like amy mcdonald but it doesn't appear to be her. This song im looking for sounded fairly recent and the singer seemed to have some kind of scottish accent, although i might be imagining this as i do live in Scotland. Bummin around on Yahoo answers rock section? Hi. I have had a really boring day, and spent most of it on Yahoo answers rock section. You all seem really cool, thanks for the entertainment. Fallout 3 radio studdering fix? In Fallout 3 PC, for some reason when listening to the radio through the Pip-Boy 3000, the audio sometimes studders as if it's a corrupted MP3, or something of that nature. It's NOT how it's meant to sound, don't be stupid and say it is, I know the static and 'old-timey' sound you'd be talking about, and this is not it, this is a bug that for whatever reason, Bethesda has failed to fix yet, and is very annoying. I know there's the whole "Press ESC, wait five seconds and press it again" thing, but that fixes it only temporarily, you have to do that ALOT, and that adds another annoyance. Here's my computer specs: Windows XP SP3 3.0Ghz Pentium D GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB (Latest Drivers) Soundblaster Live! Value (Alchemy not supported, latest drivers) I've scoured the internet far and wide with no success. If anyone's got any permanent solutions, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom I'll add again, It's NOT intentional, it's NOT because of a weak 'in game' radio signal or anything like that! It is a bug, that needs a fix in code, not in game. Please, if you don't know of a real fix, not going to a certain place in game, or doing a certain something in game; DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HELP, your words will simply fall upon deaf ears, and will not be welcomed. In every forum I go to about this question, there are people thinking they know what they're talking about, when all they're doing is making themselves sound like idiots, and it's really quite irritating. If you have a real answer, then by all means, post, if not, go away. Thank you. :)
Why do people choose to ignore sexism but lives to talk race in relation to Obama? I will not miss that "The only reason why she's a New York Senator, the reason why she's a cadidate for president, the reason why she may be a front runner is because her husband messed around" according to Chris Mathews. I will not miss seeing advertisements for T-shirts that bear the slogan "Bros before Hos." The shirts depict Barack Obama (the Bro) and Hillary Clinton (the Ho) and they are widely sold on the Internet. I will not miss walking past airport concessions selling the Hillary Nutcracker, a device in which a pantsuit-clad Clinton doll opens her legs to reveal stainless steel thighs that, well, bust nuts. I won't miss television and newspaper stories that make light of the novelty item. I won't miss episodes like the one in which the liberal radio personality Randi Rhodes called Clinton a "big f---in' whore" and said the same about former vice presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro. Rhodes was appearing at an event sponsored by a San Francisco radio station, before an audience of appreciative Obama supporters -- one of whom had promoted the evening on the presumptive Democratic nominee's official campaign Web site. I won't miss Citizens United Not Timid (no acronym, please), an anti-Clinton group founded by Republican guru Roger Stone. Political discourse will at last be free of jokes like this one, told last week by magician Penn Jillette on MSNBC: "Obama did great in February, and that's because that was Black History Month. And now Hillary's doing much better 'cause it's White B---- Month, right?" Co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski rebuked Jillette. I won't miss political commentators (including National Public Radio political editor Ken Rudin and Andrew Sullivan, the columnist and blogger) who compare Clinton to the Glenn Close character in the movie "Fatal Attraction." In the iconic 1987 film, Close played an independent New York woman who has an affair with a married man played by Michael Douglas. When the liaison ends, the jilted woman becomes a deranged, knife-wielding stalker who terrorizes the man's blissful suburban family. Message: Psychopathic home-wrecker, be gone. The airwaves will at last be free of comments that liken Clinton to a "she-devil" (Chris Matthews on MSNBC, who helpfully supplied an on-screen mockup of Clinton sprouting horns). Or those who offer that she's "looking like everyone's first wife standing outside a probate court" (Mike Barnicle, also on MSNBC). But perhaps it is not wives who are so very problematic. Maybe it's mothers. Because, after all, Clinton is more like "a scolding mother, talking down to a child" (Jack Cafferty on CNN). When all other images fail, there is one other I will not miss. That is, the down-to-the-basics, simplest one: "White women are a problem, that's -- you know, we all live with that" (William Kristol of Fox News). I won't miss reading another treatise by a man or woman, of the left or right, who says that sexism has had not even a teeny-weeny bit of influence on the course of the Democratic campaign. To hint that sexism might possibly have had a minimal role is to play that risible "gender card." Most of all, I will not miss the silence. I will not miss the deafening, depressing silence of Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean or other leading Democrats, who to my knowledge (with the exception of Sen. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland) haven't uttered a word of public outrage at the unrelenting, sex-based hate that has been hurled at a former first lady and two-term senator from New York. Among those holding their tongues are hundreds of Democrats for whom Clinton has campaigned and raised millions of dollars. Don Imus endured more public ire from the political class when he insulted the Rutgers University women's basketball team. Would the silence prevail if Obama's likeness were put on a tap-dancing doll that was sold at airports? Would the media figures who dole out precious face time to these politicians be such pals if they'd compared Obama with a character in a blaxploitation film? And how would crude references to Obama's sex organs play? There are many reasons why Clinton is losing the nomination contest, some having to do with her strategic mistakes, others with the groundswell for "change." But for all Clinton's political blemishes, the darker stain that has been exposed is the hatred of women that is accepted as a part of our culture.
Why Do We Really Watch Pro Wrestling: Storylines Or The Actual Wrestling? NOTE: YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ THE ENTIRE QUESTION, YOU CAN JUST ANSWER IF YOU WANT. For a long time, Pro Wrestling has been full of good athletes. Right now in the WWE at least, they are called sports entertainers because quite frankly, that is what they are. Acting in movies and TV shows involve scripts, and sometimes choreography. So of course you can relate the WWE and TNA wrestling to that of a movie or TV show right? But before there was not so much acting than there was just wrestling. Of course it is all choreographed, but there was not much acting other than that. Now there is tons more acting than ever before. We have "segments" now in the wrestling world. Or "promos", even backstage talking. All acting and scripted. But we are supposed to be watching for the wrestling part right? Or maybe not. See more fans started wanting to see wrestling a lot more when the wrestlers began to talk. They would try and make a guy a heel or face in a match, but if the guy never spoke then it was harder to make him one or the other. Sure he may do a few heel things in the ring, but it was not to much of an impact. However once a guy starts talking then he becomes available for criticism even more. And that is a good thing because it helps generate heat or love for that particular wrestler. And how did it start? All from interviews with wrestlers after matches. People actually thought at one time wrestling was all real. Sure the moves and stuff is real, but other than that, nothing is. Reporters just like in football, baseball, or other sports would interview a wrestler. And then they would proceed to talk to them. And newspapers would write what they said of course. People would read the papers and then they would see what the wrestler said, and if he said something nice or hateful it would determine how the promotions knew whether they were a face or heel. Basically before there was no bad or good guys in the wrestling world. Then when people started interviewing we proceeded to see this. Some even cherish wrestling so much, that they would show up for that. But others wouldn't, until the talking started. When the interviews happened there was not script, so what they said was real. If they said something nice or hateful, they really meant it more often than not. Promotions realized this, and decided to start scripting them, and then making a story out of it. It would be like watching a TV show live. Then of course when the NWA, WWF, and WCW arrived on TV we saw more of this. But people used to only be able to see wrestling live. Wrestling may be the foundation of pro wrestling, but acting is what keeps it going. Sure you could say you like watching just the wrestling part, but others watch only for what will happen storyline wise. It is not that they don't like wrestling, just that they prefer the fact that the storyline is better. You always want to see someone run in a match and hit someone with a chair or something. You may want to see gimmick matches, and other things too. But the fact is that none of it would be where it is today without acting. The storylines make wrestling what it is. If we never had a face or heel, most of us would not watch. We could just find out who wins in the paper, internet, radio, or TV. There wouldn't be anything to watch for really. I personally like wrestling, so I would watch regardless. But most do not of course. Women especially are ones who watch not because of the men, but for the story involved. Now I am not saying that all women are like that, but more often than not, this is true. I have talked to many women about pro-wrestling. All of them talk about what they think will happen in the storyline. Not anything involving the match. Quite frankly Y!A here wouldn't put wrestling on here if people were not interested in talking about wrestling. But if you read any Question here, most of the time in the wrestling section, it will be storyline related. Some non-wrestling fans are ones who have either never seen it, or think it is all gay men in the ring. Yet I'm sure if they watch RAW or SmackDown, I'm sure they would get into it. Some relate wrestling to a soap opera, and I can agree with that. But why is that do you think? The fact is that it is because of storylines. The point I am making here is quite easily this, acting is what keeps wrestling around. Without it, pro-wrestling promotions like the WWE and TNA would not be around. Maybe it is just me, but I feel we watch more for a great storyline than for a great match in today's pro wrestling. Do you agree? Spaceman, That Is Why I Told Everyone That They DID NOT Have To Read It All...
Will Gore's Show Be The Biggest On Earth? Notice where it's being held in communist China! Gore show is set to be biggest on earth Gore show is set to be biggest on earth China will broadcast Live Earth, giving the climate change concerts an audience of 2 billion. Will that silence the sceptics? David Smith reports Sunday July 1, 2007 The Observer Nowhere, perhaps, will be more important than Shanghai. One of eight cities hosting Live Earth concerts for Al Gore's crusade against climate change on Saturday, it will help deliver a vast audience across China. And with the world's most populous country on board, organisers believe they can reach 2 billion people and eclipse even Live8 as the biggest global media event of all time. It will begin at 1.10am British Summer Time in Sydney, Australia, then roll around the globe with concerts in Tokyo, Johannesburg, Shanghai, Hamburg, London's Wembley stadium, New York and finally, at 8pm, Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana beach. A special performance at the British Antarctic Survey Station in Antarctica will ensure all seven continents are included. There will be saturation coverage from TV, radio, the internet and at more than 6,000 parties in 119 countries. Critics have argued the 24-hour spectacular - featuring more than 150 acts including Madonna, Lily Allen, Genesis, Bon Jovi, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, Black Eyed Peas and Jack Johnson - will do more for the stars' careers than raising awareness of climate change. But Gore will use it to urge people to sign a seven-point pledge calling on governments to agree, within two years, an international treaty that cuts global warming pollution by 90 per cent in developed countries and by more than half worldwide. It also asks people to cut their own pollution, make their homes, businesses, schools and transport more energy efficient, and plant new trees and preserve forests. With its rapid economic growth and soaring carbon emissions, China is regarded as a crucial target for this message. Kevin Wall, the executive producer of Live Earth, has succeeded where he did not two years ago as a co-organiser of Live8, the centrepiece of the Make Poverty History campaign. 'We're on Chinese TV with 800 million people, ' he told The Observer. 'People often think on a parochial basis, so it's vital to be there. We've got to talk and make the whole world listen.' Live Earth China, on the steps of the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai, will feature popular national singers as well as Britain's Sarah Brightman, and be broadcast across the country by the Shanghai Media Group. Steve Howard, chief executive of The Climate Group, a London-based campaign organisation supporting Live Earth, said: 'The US and China are responsible for half the world's carbon emissions. Live Earth will get huge attention in both. The biggest issue on the planet ever requires the biggest media event ever.' The seed was planted less than two years ago at the Beverly Hills Hotel in California, when Wall, a veteran concert producer, attended a slide show about global warming presented by Gore, as featured in the Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth 'Over the course of the 90 minutes my wife and I were very emotionally moved by the climate crisis,' said Wall, 54, a father of three. 'We understood for the first time it was about us, our children and our children's children. This is not just a movie - it's happening.' Wall met the former US vice-president and discussed taking the message to as many people as possible: 'After Live8 I said never again, but I got the call from Al Gore, the global rock star on this issue. What I can do on the day is deliver 2 billion pairs of eyeballs.' On Saturday Gore will be at the Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, near New York City, where the Police, Smashing Pumpkins, Alicia Keys and others will perform. 'We don't want him getting on planes burning carbon,' Wall acknowledged. Profits from Live Earth will go to Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection. But the entire event has been questioned by Bob Geldof, organiser of Live Aid and Live8. In May he said: 'I hope they're a success. But why is he [Gore] actually organising them? To make us aware of the greenhouse effect? Everybody's known about that for years. We are all fucking conscious of global warming.' Sceptics have also pointed to the amount of electricity used to power the speakers and lights, and the fuel spent on ferrying musicians and their equipment to the venues by plane and lorry. Wall said: 'We are trying to minimise the carbon as much as possible. Most artists are coming from nearby areas. Madonna, for example, lives in London and will be performing at Wembley.' He added: 'There are 3,000 concerts a year. We're doing 10, but touching 2 billion people about what I think is the biggest issue that's ever faced humanity.' Steve Howard of the environmental charity Climate Group said: 'Dealing with climate change doesn't mean we have got to stop live performances or call for a moratorium on football matches. There are positive choices for people to make. If we get this right, in 10 to 15 years time every product will be a green product. 'Live Earth is a big step in the right direction.' Howard added. 'Arnold Schwarzenegger put it well when he said in Washington DC: "We need to make the environment cool and sexy."' Organisers deny that Live Earth will be a one-off that could be soon forgotten. They have produced more than 60 short films, 30 public service announcements featuring stars such as Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz, and a book, The Live Earth Global Warming Survival Handbook by David de Rothschild, that will be published in Britain this week. http://observer.guardian.co.uk/world/story/0,,2115785,00.html
Wanting to see what she looks like............? My boyfriend likes to listen to several radio stations that talk about women, thing is that sometimes these women talk dirty and are mostly porn stars, the thing that gets on my nerves is that he comes home to see what they look live on the internet. Is it wrong of me to get annoyed???
plz revise the short paragraph its urgent? English is referred to as the dominant international language which is widely used in business, internet, and various organizations. In other words, not only native speakers communicate in English, many foreigners learn English to talk to other people too. As a result, English acts as a bridge of communication. Many international students now come to English-speaking countries to learn English because it helps them to apply to prestigious university, to obtain decent occupation, to live in prosperous life. However, these students must keep in mind that just staying in English-speaking countries does not make them think more critically and speak well in English. They have to engage with the language by watching English news, listening to English radio, or conversing with English-speaking friends more frequently. What can the concluding sentence be?
Why does America tolerate the intimidation tactics of the Obama campaign? ? The Exalted One himself, speaking at a Nevada rally: “I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face.” http://townhall.com/Common/PrintPage.aspx?g=efefaa8a-4ddd-4474-ba54-ac425fd6f883&t=c Responding to those who dare commit blasphemy against The One, Obama's campaign has unleashed lawsuits and urged prosecution by no less than the Justice Department. It has enlisted elected officials to threaten and intimidate Obama's foes. It has deployed its vast internet e-mail list to silence bloggers and radio talk shows. And he hasn't even become President yet! If he wins, how do you think you will like living in an Obama Thugocracy? .
Is this true about Liberals & Conservatives? What do you think about this???? I was listing to a radio talk show host (name unimportant) as how he explained to me the breakdown of voters in this upcoming presidential election. He makes some interesting observations about voters from all his years on the radio. (NOTE: Please keep in mind these are his view & opinions and may not actually reflect exact numbers, views and opinions of others.) Here's how he described it..... "Conservatives (Republicans) can be manly broken up into two categories. Category 1: About 51-52 % of all Conservatives have a full working knowledge of current US & world events, US & world economics, US & world history, Global politics & US politics. Meaning - they keep up with what's going on in the world. Category 2: From then on, it gets broken down to a lesser and lesser degree depending on the person and their interest. For Democrats (Liberals) the dynamic is total different. Category 1: Only 10% percent have a full working knowledge of current US & world events, US & world economics, US & world history, Global politics & US politics. Meaning - they keep up with what's going on in the world. Category 2: While the other 90% could care less about such things. They are busy with their daily lives, watching American Idol, survivor or things like that. That is why they need to have "get out the vote" campaigns. For most republicans they always know that every 4 years that have to go and vote and they always get out there and vote, where as democrats need to be reminded time and again. But it's a sad fact that most democrats and some republicans know so little about each candidate and what they stand for, that they blindly walk into the polls and vote. What is even more disturbing is that they will believe whatever a person or persons or what the news media tells them. Many do not do their homework & research." MY THOUGHTS: There was study done a little while ago where they asked most Americans "Can you name all 5 Simpson characters?" and "Can you name all 5 rights granted to you by the first amendment in the US constitution?" The vast major (over 80-90%) of those liberals (and about 10 -15% of some conservatives) surveyed could name all 5 of the Simpsons but few could even remember 1 of the 5 rights of the first amendment. The scary thought is: How do you know your rights have been violated if you don’t even know what they are?” There is an old saying that goes: “The best way to keep someone oppressed is to teach them nothing” – Unknown Author Now people have to learn to be teachable and to do their homework. We live in the information age; a whole world of knowledge is right at your finger tips (public library, internet, etc.) all people got to do, as my high school history teach used to say, is to: “just look it up”. and as a popular sci-fi TV show tagline quoted: "The Truth is out there". ALSO, I've always liked the sayings: "Catch a fish for a man; you'll feed him for a day. But if you teach him how to fish, you'll feed him for a lifetime" – Unknown Author AND: "Closed minds cannot open doors but if you open your mind to all things, even those things you don't agree with at first, the world can then become your oyster and all things can be possible" – Unknown Author What are your views about this??? It's funny, many people want to know the name of the radio talk show host (source) who's name is not important at all. His name doesn't matter. What really is important is what he is talking about... Secondly: some people also failed to read - THE NOTE: Please keep in mind these are HIS VIEW & HIS OPINIONS and may not actually reflect exact numbers, views and opinions of others. All his data is based on his personal encounters about voters from all his (20 plus) years on the radio (both in small & large markets). Focus on the questions at hand, never mind who is doing the asking - that is pointless.

How to cope with suicidal thoughts....? I have been having more and more depressing thoughts and even thoughts of suicide. I have problems with coping and get upset and worry until I make myself sick. I have spoken with family, thinking that talking about it might help...they told me to just get over it and do something to take my mind off of it. My question is this: how do I deal with neg. thoughts that overrule everything else in my head?? I try to distract myself with tv, radio, internet, studying and I catch myself dazing out and having neg. thoughts. I will just be sitting there spaced out and an hour, 2 hrs have gone by. I worry about my family, the economy, gas, my future, heck, I even worry about how much power my lamp is using. What are some things I can do to stop these thoughts?? Those thoughts depress me and make me think of suicide b/c I don't know how else to cope!! And plz, don't recommend seeing a Dr....I have no insurance and no way to pay. There are also no free counseling services where I live!! Thank you everyone SO MUCH!! I have felt for so long that I am the only one with these crazy thoughts nagging at me during every waking moment. PLZ keep the advice coming....it helps to know you're out there!! Also, does anyone know of any websites that help you search for free counseling?? I live in a VERY small southern town with very few options for treatment, and any help would be great!! TY!!!!!!!!!
if u fink u had a bad day..........? >All methods have tricked me with their promises of easy, painless hair >removal -the Epilady, the standard razor, the scissors, the Nair, the >EpilStop, and now, "The Wax". > >My night began as any other normal weekday night. I came home from >work, fixed dinner for my son and we played for a while. I then had >the thought that would ring painfully in my mind for the next couple >hours: maybe I should use that wax in my medicine cabinet. > >I set up my boy with a video and headed to the site of my demise, um, >I mean bathroom. It was one of those cold wax kits. No melting a clump >of hot wax, you just rub the clear strips in your hand, peel them >apart, press it on your leg (or wherever) and ignore the frantically >rising crescendo of string instruments in the background. No muss, no >fuss. How hard can this be? I mean, I'm not the girly-est of girls but >I'm mechanically inclined so maybe I can figure out how this works. >You'd think. > >So I pull one of the thin strips out. It's two strips facing each >other, stuck together. I'm supposed to rub it in my hand to warm and >soften the wax (I'm guessing). I inhale deeply. I brace >myself. > >RRRIIIIPPP!!!! I'm blind! Blind from the pain! Vision returning. Oh >crap. I've managed to pull off half an inch of the strip. > >Another deep breath. And RIIIP! Everything is swirly and tie-dyed? Do >I hear crashing drums? OK, coming back to normal again. I want to see >my trophy - my wax covered pelt that caused me so much agony. I am >touching wax. I look to the ceiling and silently shout "nooooooo!!" >And realize I have just begun living my own personal version of "The >Tar Baby." > >I peel my fingers off the softest, most sensitive part of my body that >is now covered in cold wax and matted hair, and make the next big >mistake - up until this point, yo u'll remember, I've had my foot on >the toilet. > >I know I need to move, to do something. I get in the tub - the water is slightly hotter than is used to >torture prisoners of war or sterilize surgical equipment. And I sit. > >Now the only thing worse than having your goodies glued together is >having them glued together and then glued to the bottom of a tub. > >In scalding hot water. Which, by the way, does not melt the cold wax. >So now I'm stuck to the tub. > >I call my friend, C, because she once dropped out of beauty school so >surely she has some secret knowledge or trick to get wax off skin. >It's never good to start a conversation with "So my butt and naughty >bits are stuck to the tub." She doesn't have a trick. She does her >best to suppress laughter. She wants to know exactly where the wax is >on the butt - "Are we talking cheek or hole, here?" she asks. She >isn't even trying to hide the giggles now. > >I give her the run-down of the entire night. You're going to end up on a radio show or the >internet if you tell them the truth. > >While we go through various solutions, I have resorted to scraping the >wax off with a razor. Boy, nothing feels better to the girly goodies >than covering them in wax, sticking them to a tub in super hot water >and THEN dry shaving the sticky wax off! > >In the middle of the conversation (which has inexplicably turned to >other subjects!) I find the little, beautiful saving grace that is the >lotion provided with wax to remove the excess. I rub some in and start >screaming "It's working! It's working!" I get hearty congratulations >from C and we hang up. > >I successfully remove all the wax and notice, to my dismay, the hair >is still there. So I shaved the damned stuff off. Hell, I was numb by >that point anyway. > >And then I put the box of wax back in my medicine cabinet. > >Never know when a moustache might start to come in. > >Tonight, I attempt hair dying.
Are there any Unsigned Bands out there Craving Airtime? I, along with my co-host Tashy, host The Clothesaphobic Hours, a music/talk programme on SubFM.org. I've always appreciated the unsigned bands out there & would love to give them a little airtime & advertising to get their name out there in the public. Although SubFM is small & independently owned, a hell of a lot of people stream it from the Internet via the website, and many more mainstream radio shows also listen for talent. I have recently designed an Unsigned bands section of our show, where we'll play some tunes from your LPs or individual recordings on air live for all to hear. We mostly play a mix of rock, punk, alt, emo, progressive, experimental, acoustic, indie and rockabilly. If you feel that you are in a band craving some airtime, we are currently accepting LPs, EPs and recordings. Please E-mail us anytime at clothesaphobic@hotmail.com or post here & I'll get back to you with information. We are an Australian radio show, but all countries are accepted!
Why do Democrat Tactics Work? BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Ron in Houston, thanks for calling. You're next on the EIB Network, sir. Hello. CALLER: Mega dittos, mighty one. The reason I called, this has been a frustration for about the last three months right now. How long is everybody going to forget how many times the Democrats have tried to give away everything this country's done? I'm to the point now, I'll put up the money to basically put most of the Democratic Party on Ritalin because they're becoming an out-of-control reality program. In fact, they may be the basis for the original reality programs out there. Can you explain to me how they keep getting away with the junk they're putting out there and they do it over and over and over again. I watched it during Reagan, and when the huge threat of the Soviet Union was out there. The Soviet Union was kind of a rusty bucket ready to fall over, but until the day it happened, Reagan was looked at as a fool. I'm not particularly a big fan of George Bush, but George Bush can get the job done. Let him be president. I'm sorry. I want to just scream right now. RUSH: Wait. If I understood everything you're saying, and your call is a little distorted, you're wondering how in the world people keep falling for the same Democrat trick? CALLER: It's the same thing over and over and over again. I'm an ex-Navy officer. I spent a lot of time out on US aircraft carriers. I spent a lot of time watching situations and I'm sitting there watching what's going on and I'm watching what the media is spitting back out in the States, and there's no correlation. RUSH: Well, I explained this. Look, there's so many factors in this answer. In the first place, public education system. Young skulls full of mush have grown up not learning about history. They've grown up being told that Bill Clinton was a great president, and that Abe Lincoln is worth one paragraph. They've, in many cases, grown up and been told that the white settlers of this country, the original settlers were racists, sexists, bigots, homophobes. They've been inculcated with conflict resolution that tells them that we're the problem and we have to cave and give up. We also have a bunch of people here in a nation of prosperity and vast affluence who don't have to pay attention to these uncomfortable thing if they don't want to. They don't have to, quote, "sacrifice," as such when the Democrats and the media in concert convince them there's no problem. It's something they'd like to hear, and so they believe it. BREAK TRANSCRIPT I just had a conversation with our official call screener today, Bo Snerdley, in his office. He says people on the phones are fit to be tied, particularly at Nancy Pelosi. They're throwing the word "traitor" around all over the place. It leads me to try to explain in a little bit more depth an answer to a question we got from a caller near the end of the last hour. He was beside himself, this former Navy man, and his perception is the American people buy everything the Democrats say, and he doesn't understand it. After they said Reagan was the biggest problem facing the free world, Reagan dispatched the Soviet Union. His point was that there are so many instances where you can look, historically, and find that liberal Democrats are wrong in what they claim, not just in foreign policy, but their whole social safety net program has been a disaster, and why people don't see this, and it's very frustrating thing to him. He wanted to know why I thought that was the case, and I had a minute and a half to give an answer. For a minute and a half, it was a brilliant answer. A better answer than anybody else could utter in a minute and a half. That's because I'm a highly trained broadcast specialist who understands the nature of brevity as the soul of wit. But let me expand on this, because it is a frustrating thing, and I feel it sometimes, too, even in the midst of my optimism. Remember, I have said that during all of this the Democrats are sowing their seeds for a massive landslide defeat. There is history for that, too. There is plenty of history that the American people don't buy what the Democrats sell. The reason so many of you think that most Americans are is because of the Drive-By Media. Now, the Drive-By Media no longer has its monopoly but it's still very powerful and it's a one-note samba. It is pro-Democrat. It is pro-liberal. It is anti-Bush. It is anti-Republican, and it is relentless, and I want to remind you of something else. Everybody knows that the three nightly newscasts on the major three networks are not as large, singularly, as they used to be in terms of audience. Combined, they still reach about 30 million people a night, whereas Cronkite used to do that all by himself. There is a new media, and there's an alternative, and it's growing. It's burgeoning, and it's creating problems for the liberal Democrats, although those problems are not often recounted in their house organs, such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Drive-By television networks, the cable networks. So you're looking for validation that they are weakening, and you don't see it because what you watch on television, 90%, portrays the Democrats as omnipotent and powerful, all over the place, gaining strength, the American people love and support them, and that impression has to be considered somewhat valid, what with the election results of last November. At the same time, I don't think it's as pervasive as it used to be. But let's talk about the people that watch the nightly newscasts for one second. Many of you in this audience are multitaskers and you access a whole lot of different sources of media. You listen to this program, and you go on the Internet. You watch some cable news. You're all over the place. You read various different things. You would be surprised at the number of Americans whose only source of news is the nightly newscasts. Now, they're primarily elderly, upper middle-age and beyond. You can see that by looking at the commercials -- and I don't mean this to sound funny, even though it is. But you're watching a newscast and the commercials are burial plots here and Preparation H over there and heart medicine here and Lipitor over there. When basically 80% of the commercials are medicines to sustain your life for another five years, you know who the audience is, and that's habitual. They have not transformed into the new media. They are out there. These are people, too, that have landline telephones. These are people that have not moved into cell phones and the Internet, and guess who it is that pollsters call? Pollsters have a tough time getting hold of people with cell phones, and they're having a tougher and tougher time getting hold of people that use landline phones. But this crowd that we're talking about does; they still do. This generational shift has not been completed yet, and the people that produce these nightly newscasts are well aware of this, and they're always making efforts here to try to lower their demographics. But they've got a problem, because their newscasts happen at the end of the day when a lot of people already know what they're going to see when they turn on the nightly news. But those who watch it -- and there's 30 million of them every night, averaged, if you combine all three -- it's their first taste of the day, and they believe it. It's hook, line, and sinker. It's the Bible to them, and that's it. So there's a large chunk of it, and then you have, sadly, ladies and gentlemen, a lot of people who are just sponges, and they access the Drive-By Media, and they just believe it. It carries with it this note of authority. You know from your own experience growing up: If you read it in the paper, it was true. It's just like law enforcement never, ever falsely charges people. Law enforcement never screws up. If they say somebody did it, you think they did it. That's just human nature. I'm not even talking politics here. There's certain institutions in this country that have always enjoyed a tremendous amount of credibility and respect and very few people have ever questioned it, and the Drive-By Media is one of those. That's really the root of the question. How in the world can people continue to believe this stuff, not just the media, but how can they believe the Democrats when time and time again everything the Democrats say turns out to be not true? Here's a Navy man calling. "How can it be that people are not outraged over Pelosi? How can it be that they're not outraged over the fact that the Democrats are trying to secure the defeat and un-fund, de-fund the United States Military?" Why are there not massive protests in the street of anger and outrage over this? Well, there are answers to this, and they're traditional. Most of the people that would do those kind of protests don't ever protest. The protesters are the malcontent leftists who make it their job. They go out and they secure rent-a-mobs and they try to create chaos and tumult and this is what the media is doing, and the Democrats, they don't want you happy. They don't want you content, not with a Republican in the White House, and certainly not with a Republican they think is illegitimate, and certainly not when the Republicans run the House and Senate or ran the House and Senate. They don't want you happy. And then you've gotta factor in human nature. Sad to say, it's much easier to be a pessimist than it is to be an optimist. It's much easier to be doom and gloom. It's much easier to think the worst is going to happen than to believe the best will happen, and most people's experiences in their lives are that excrement happens, and good things are rare and they're unique, and that's why they're rare and unique, because they don't happen that much. So you factor all of these things together. You know, why is it is that Nancy Pelosi is not the equivalent of Jane Fonda, for crying out loud? She's trying to undermine her own country for her own self-interests and the interests of her party. I know it's frustrating to watch this stuff and think that most of your fellow citizens are just a bunch of blithering idiot sponges soaking it all up. I don't think it's as bad as you think, but it is a problem. There are a lot of people who are not thinkers. There are a lot of people who are not curious. There are a lot of people who want to be mired in misery or doom and gloom. It's a natural mind-set, and it's fed to them each and every day. But, as I say, if you go back and look at the number of things, historically, the Democrats don't win every election, and everything that you think is going to happen doesn't in regards to their prominence and victory. I'm telling you, I know some of you just think I'm whistling Dixie here, but far more people in this country than you might believe or you might be aware of, are watching what's happening and are just as outraged as you are, and when it comes time for them to express themselves, they will do so, and the Democrats are cruising for a major humiliation again. I don't know how soon. It may not be 2008, it may be 2010 or 2012. I'm talking about electorally, but it is going to happen. They're reconstructing the exact circumstances they created post-Vietnam going into Watergate and that they think led them to the Promised Land. Of course they lost in a 49-state landslide with George McGovern as their nominee. Guess who Democrats are talking to about advising them for their future? They're out there having conferences with George McGovern. They have a perverted sense of their own success. When it's defined and when it happens, or how it's defined and when it has happened, this is something that's just going to take time to play out. The tough thing for those of you who are affected by this, is you never, ever see this even when they do lose. Even when they're shellacked, you don't see humiliation or embarrassment in the Drive-By Media. The minute they lose, they ratchet it up again. "Okay, what are the Democrats going to have to do to win?" There is never credit for Reagan, never credit for Bush, never credit for victorious Republicans. They always slough it off to, "Well, again, the right-wing Christian hayseeds, you know? They came through. Democrats failed to," blah, blah, some other thing. Victory is never legitimate. It's because of some mistake Democrats made, and they start out trying to correct the mistakes and the media helps them out with this. It's a one-note samba for the first time in the Drive-By Media. But it's not as one sided and had as bad in terms of the perception of the majority of the American people as you believe, as you might think. Listen to the number of people who call here asking this question. You are not just lone voices appearing on this program. There are countless others, thousands, hundreds of thousands who are sitting out there and throwing things on the radio going, "Yeah! Yeah! Say it again! Say it louder!" They're just as irritated as you are. They don't have an outlet, and they're not interviewed by the Drive-By Media and so forth. News is a product like any other product that's marketed and packaged and put on the grocery shelves or any other store shelf, for sale. I don't care how lofty they think their position is because it's constitutionally protected. I don't care about any of that. These people put together an agenda. There are people (they're working right now) putting together these newscasts this afternoon and tonight, and don't believe that they're not putting these things together with their own agendas and their own desires and what they think will look good, what they think will get ratings in some cases. But for the first the most part, it's not about objectivity or reporting real news or anything of the sort. Their worldview is what it is, and things that don't fit in their worldview they don't even see. So it's buck-up time. (sigh) I hate to being an I told you so, but I warned everybody back in October, this was the kind of thing you're going to have to put up with if the Republicans lose the election. It's bad enough when they win, the Democrats are relentless -- and the Drive-Bys. But now they won, and, of course, they're puffing their chests out and they're beating their chests like King Kong, Tarzan, Mighty Joe Young, whatever you want, and they're just feeling their oats right now, and it's that pompous arrogance and condescension that's also offensive in the way they go about things. But you gotta have faith, folks. The Democrats have not totally triumphed, and they never will totally triumph. There are too many of you who care too much, who will stop it. One other factor -- and I've mentioned this before, too. Particularly when it comes to the war on terror, war in Iraq, the Drive-Bys have done one hell of a job of convincing enough Americans that there's no threat. In fact, not only is there no threat, there wouldn't be a threat at all if we weren't attacking Muslims, if Bush weren't in the White House. 9/11? Why, it was just a mere episode, and most people don't want to remember it. Most people don't want to be reminded of it. They don't want to think that they're going to be, their whole lives, constantly on a vigil protecting themselves and waiting for the next attack. That's not what being an American is. Being an American is to be insulated from the stuff that happens in the Middle East, insulated from the stuff that happens in the Third World, insulated from the stuff that happens in places like Afghanistan and what's going on in the Philippines now, and in some of Indonesia. That's not what being an American is. Being an American is about having as carefree a life as possible with the normal trials and tribulations, but it does not include getting up every day and worrying to death over whether another couple jets are going to go into another couple buildings and another 3,000 people be incinerated. If anybody comes along and convince the American people they don't have to worry about that, then they'll gladly take the bait -- and, voila! It is happening, and because of our affluence and prosperity, people are able to go live their lives however they choose and pay scant or no attention to this whatsoever, and then, some of these people, after deciding that they don't want to pay any attention to this and that they don't want to live their lives under constant fear, constant threat that this could happen again, they don't want to be vigilant about this, all it takes to add to that is everyday a pummeling of the president and the whole thing about the war on terror and how we're creating circumstances. Now the Iranians are doing what they're doing because of us. They were peace-loving people before we came along! The Iraqis had been better off with Saddam Hussein. So you couple all of that natural mind-set of what it is to be an American or what it has been to be an American, with a desire for that to continue, and then you portray the "threat" to being an American as living in the embodiment of George W. Bush. Well, you can see how some people would buy into that, because everybody wants to blame somebody other than themselves. You might say, "Well, why don't they blame the Democrats?" Because nowhere in the media are the Democrats being blamed, other than here. We're not insignificant. We're not small by any stretch. I'll tell you, Fox News is what it is, but it's a speck compared to the three networks, all the rest of the Drive-Bys and the magazines and the newspapers and so forth and so on. There are reasons for this. There are explanations for it. Solutions? Well, in my case I just rely on the ultimate judgment and decency of a majority of the American people, the vast amount of times, to prevail, and I still believe that.

They quickly devised a good plan and they put their plan to action. The brunette drove up to the front of the bank that they had decided to rob. She turned to the blonde and asked her, "Now, do you remember what the plan is?" The blonde sighed and replied, "Yeah, yeah, I remember..." The brunette went over the plan once more and let the blonde out to do her stuff. Before the blonde could shut the door, the brunette yelled out, "Be sure to be in and out in no more than 5 minutes!" The blonde ran inside and the brunette waited in the car... and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited. After waiting for so long in the car, the blonde bursts out of the bank's doors, the alarm blaring loud enough to wake everyone up. The blonde was lugging a bank safe behind her by a rope tied around it. A security guard ran out of the bank, his pants down around his ankles and attempting to reach his gun. The blonde breathed heavily as she tried to put the safe in the car but finally jsut gave up and dropped the safe behind. She ran into the passenger seat and pulled the door shut, the car already moving. The security guard yelled, "Stop! Stop!" while the pair drove off, leaving the safe with rope tied tightly around it behind. The brunette frantically asked the blonde, "What the hell happened in there?!?" The blonde was panting and turned to the brunette and choked out, "What do you mean? I followed the plan exactly!" The brunette paused and yelled, "YOU IDIOT! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO TIE UP THE GUARD AND BLOW THE SAFE!" A young blonde lady in the maternity ward just prior to labor is asked by the midwife if she would like her husband to be present at the birth. "I'm afraid I don't have a husband," she replies. "O.K. do you have a boyfriend?" asks the Midwife. "No, no boyfriend either." "Do you have a partner then?" "No, I'm unattached, I'll be having my baby on my own." After the birth the midwife again speaks to the young woman. "You have a healthy bouncing baby girl, but I must warn you before you see her that the baby is black" "Well," replies the girl. "I was very down on my luck, with no money and nowhere to live, and so I accepted a job in a Porno movie. The lead man was black." "Oh, I'm very sorry," says the midwife, "that's really none of my business and I'm sorry that I have to ask you these awkward questions, but I must also tell you that the baby has blonde hair." "Well yes," the girl again replies, "you see I desperately needed the money and there was this Swedish guy also involved in the movie, what else could I do?" "Oh, I'm sorry," the midwife repeats, "that's really none of my business and I hate to pry further but your baby has slanted eyes." "Well yes," continues the girl, "I was incredibly hard up and there was also a Chinese man in the movie." At this the midwife again apologizes collects the baby and presents her to the girl, who immediately proceeds to give baby a slap on the butt. The baby starts crying and the mother exclaims, "Thank God for that!" "What do you mean?" says the midwife, shocked. "Well," says the girl extremely relieved, "I had this horrible feeling that it was going to bark." One day a blonde woman was so fed up with all of the dumb blonde jokes that she decided to kill herself. She took a rope outside and found a suitable tree. She threw the rope over a branch and proceeded to hang herself. Soon two men came along and asked, "what are you doing?". She replied, "I'm hanging myself." The two men looked at her and said, "well usually if your trying to kill yourself you put the rope around your neck." Then the Blonde said, "Duh, I tried that but I couldn't breathe." A certain young man finally won a date with the blonde female of somewhat questionable morals that lived in his apartment complex. To prepare for his big date, the young man went up on to the roof of his apartment building in order to tan himself. Not wanting any tan lines to show, he sunbathed in the nude. Unfortunately, the young man fell asleep while on the roof, and managed to get a sunburn on his "tool of the trade." But the young man was determined not to miss his date, so he put some lotion on his manhood and wrapped it in gauze. The blonde showed up for the date at his apartment, and the young man treated her to a homecooked dinner, after which they went into the living room to watch a movie. During the movie, however, the young man's sunburn started acting up again. He asked to be excused, went into the kitchen, and poured a tall, cool glass of milk. He then placed his sunburned member in the milk and experienced immediate relief of his pain. The blonde, however, wondering what he was doing, wandered into the kitchen to see him with his johnson immersed in a glass of milk. Upon seeing this, the blonde exclaimed, "So that's how you guys load those things!" ------- A little boy and his dad are out walking one day when the little boy asks, "Dad, can I get a girlfriend?" The dad says, "When your older." 5 years pass and the boy is 8 years old and he asks his dad, "Dad can I get a girlfriend now?" The dad replies, "When you're older." 5 more years pass and the boy is 13. He asks his dad, "Dad, can I get a girl friend NOW?" The dad finally says, "When you're 18." When the boy reaches 18 he goes out and gets the fittest blonde haired bird there is and brings her home. She takes him to his bedroom and starts taking her clothes off! In a panic, the boy rushes downstairs and says, "Dad, the girl is taking her clothes off and getting into my bed!" The father, exited, tells him, "Stick you biggest, hariest thing in her pussy!" The boy rushes up stairs and a few minutes later the father hears his son shout, "Dad, my head is stuck!!!" ------- You're a 90's kid if: You can finish this [ice ice _ _ _ _ ] You remember watching: -Doug -Ren & Stimpy -Pinky and the Brain -AAAAAAAH Real Monsters! -Rockos modern Life. -Cow & Chicken You've ever ended a sentence with the word "PSYCHE!" A Joke for you, How funny is this? For the over 30 Crowd!!!!!!!!! How true!!! THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!! If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!! When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning . uphill BOTH ways. Yadda, yadda, yadda.......... And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it! But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it! I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!! There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there! There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up! We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it! And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister! We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'asteroids' and the graphics sucked ass! Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE! When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just screwed! Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no onscreen menu and no remote control! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards! And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up.We had to use the stove or go build a frigging fire... imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing and shake it over the stove forever like an idiot. That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980! Regards, The over 30 Crowd Princess Sam, thumbs down for you, your rude

Anyone intrested in writing a two page summary of this? FIBER KEEPS ITS PROMISE BY GEORGE GILDER "Today, I await the death of television, telephony, VCRs, and analog cameras with utter confidence as Moore's law unfolds." Rupert Murdoch, Ted Turner, John Malone, are you listening?" Get ready. Bandwidth will triple each year for the next 25, creating trillions in new wealth. Editor's note: Four years ago, Forbes ASAP published its first issue with a stunning prophecy by contributing editor George Gilder. Fiber optics, said George, had the potential to carry 25 trillion bits per second down a single strand. This represented a ten-thousandfold leap in carrying capacity over the 2.5 billion bits "barrier" long assumed by most experts in the field. What did George see that others had missed? One, a little-recognized (at the time) breakthrough called an erbium-doped amplifier, which keeps optical signals pure and strong over long distances. The other was a deep technical shift, with roots in the 1940s-era work of information theory pioneer Claude Shannon. If you believed Shannon, his logic dictated a new messaging scheme called wave division multiplexing. Though scorned by the experts four years ago, WDM now is emerging as the winner George had prophesied. The real winners will be all of us, as the coming world of cheap, unlimited bandwidth unfolds and at last fulfills the true potential of the information age. Here is George with an update. IMAGINE THAT IN 1975 YOU KNEW that Moore's law--the Intel chairman's projection of the doubling of the number of transistors on a microchip every 18 months--would hold for the rest of your lifetime. What if you knew that these transistors would run cooler, faster, better, and cheaper as they got smaller and were crammed more closely together? Suppose you knew the law of the microcosm: that the cost-effectiveness of any number of "n" transistors on a single silicon sliver would rise by the square of the increase in "n." As an investor knowing this Moore's law trajectory, you would have been able to predict and exploit a long series of developments: the emergence of the PC; its dominance over all other computer form factors; the success of companies making chips, disk drives, peripherals, and software for this machine. With a slight effort of intellect, you could have extended the insight and prophesied the digitization of watches, records (CDs), cellular phones, cameras, TVs, broadcast satellites, and other devices that can use miniaturized computer power. If you did not know precisely when each of these benisons would flourish, you would have known that each one was essentially inevitable. To calculate approximate dates, you had only to guess the product's optimal price of popularization and then match its need for mips (millions of instructions per second) of computer power with the cost of those mips as defined by Moore's law. Merely by using this technique of Moore's law matching--and holding to it with unshakable conviction for nearly 20 years--I became known as a "futurist." Today I await the death of television, telephony, VCRs, and analog cameras with utter confidence as Moore's law unfolds. You can tell me about the 98% penetration of TVs in American homes, the continuing popularity of couch-potato entertainments, the effectiveness of broadcast advertising, and the profound and unbridgeable chasm between the office appliance and the living-room tube. But I will pay no attention. Just you wait--Jack Welch, Ted Turner, Rupert Murdoch, John Malone, and David Jennings--the TV will die and you may be too late for the Net. It is now 1997, and a stream of dramatic events certifies that another law, as powerful and fateful and inexorable as Moore's, is gaining a similar sway over the future of technology. It is what I have termed the law of the telecosm. Its physical base lies in the same quantum realm of eigenstates and band gaps that governs the performance of transistors and also makes photons leap and lase. But the telecosm reaches beyond components to systems, combining the science of the electromagnetic spectrum with Claude Shannon's information theory. In essence, as frequencies rise and wavelengths drop, digital performance improves exponentially. Bandwidth rises, power usage sinks, antenna size shrinks, interference collapses, error rates plummet. The law of the telecosm ordains that the total bandwidth of communications systems will triple every year for the next 25 years. As communicators move up-spectrum, they can use bandwidth as a substitute for power, memory, and switching. This results in far cheaper and more efficient systems. In 1996, the new fiber paradigm emerged in full force. Parallel communications in all-optical networks became the dominant source of new bandwidth in telecom. Like Moore's law, the law of the telecosm will reshape the entire world of information technology. It defines the direction of technological advance, the vectors of growth, the sweet spots for finance. AMERICA'S DARK SECRET FOR MORE THAN A DECADE, American companies have been laying optical fiber strands at a pace of some 4,000 miles a day, for a total of more than 25 million strand miles. Five years ago, the top 10% of U.S. homes and businesses were, on average, a thousand households away from a fiber node; now they are a hundred households away. However, the imperial advance of this technology conceals a dark secret, which has led to a pervasive underestimation of the long-term impact of photonics. Sixty percent of the fiber remains "dark" (unused for communications) and even the leading-edge "lit" fiber is being used at less than one ten-thousandth of its intrinsic capacity. This problem has prompted leaders in the industry, from Bill Gates and Andy Grove to Bob Metcalfe and Mitch Kapor, to underrate drastically the impact of fiber optics. Restricting the speed and cost-effectiveness of fiber has been an electronic bottleneck and a regulatory noose. In order for the signal to be amplified, regenerated, or switched, the light pulses had to be transformed into electronic pulses by optoelectronic converters. For all the talk of the speed of light, fiber-optic systems therefore could pass bits no faster than the switching speed of transistors, which tops out at a cycle time of between 2.5 and 10 gigahertz. Meanwhile, telecom companies could not deploy new low-cost fiber products any faster than the switching speed of politicians and regulators, which tops out roughly at a cycle time of between 2.5 years and a rate of evolution measurable only by means of carbon 14. Nonetheless, the intrinsic capacity of every fiber line is not 2.5 gigahertz. Nor is it even 25 gigahertz, which is roughly the capacity of all the frequencies commonly used in the air, from AM radio to kA band satellite. The intrinsic capacity of every fiber thread, as thin as a human hair, is at the least one thousand times the capacity of what we call the "air." One thread could carry all the calls in America on the peak moment of Mother's Day. One fiber thread could carry 25 times more bits than last year's average traffic load of all the world's communications networks put together: an estimated terabit (trillion bits) a second. Over the last five years, technological breakthroughs and legislative loopholes have begun to open up this immense capacity to possible use. Following concepts pioneered and patented by David Payne at the University of Southampton in England, a Bell Laboratories group led by Emmanuel Desurvire and Randy Giles developed a workable all-optical device. They showed that a short stretch of fiber doped with erbium, a rare earth mineral, and excited by a cheap laser diode can function as a powerful amplifier over fully 4,500 gigahertz of the 25,000 gigahertz span. Introduced by Pirelli of Italy and popularized by Ciena Corporation of Savage, Maryland, and by Lucent and Alcatel, today such photonic amplifiers are a practical reality. Put in packages between two and three cubic inches in size, the erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) fit anywhere in an optical network for enhancing signals without electronics. This invention overcame the most fundamental disadvantage of optical networks compared to electronic networks. You can tap into an electronic network as often as desired without eroding the voltage signal. Although resistance and capacitance will leach away the current, there are no splitting losses in a voltage divider. Photonic signals, by contrast, suffer splitting losses every time they are tapped; they lose photons until eventually there are none left. The cheap and compact all-optical amplifier solves this problem. It is an invention comparable in importance to the integrated circuit. Just as the integrated circuit made it possible to put an entire computer system on a single sliver of silicon, the all-optical amplifier makes it possible to put an entire system on a seamless seine of silica--glass. Unleashing the law of the telecosm, it makes possible a new global economy of bandwidth abundance. Five years ago when I first celebrated the radical implications of erbium-doped amplifiers, skepticism reigned. I was summoned to Bellcore, where the first optical networks had been built and then abandoned, to learn the acute limits of the technology from Charles Brackett and his team. I had offered the vision of a broadband fibersphere--a worldwide web of glass and light--where computer users could tune into favored frequencies as readily as radios tune into frequencies in the atmosphere today. But Brackett and other Bellcore experts told me that my basic assumption was false. It was no simpler, they said, to tune into one of scores of frequencies on a fiber than to select time slots in a time-division-multiplexed (TDM) bitstream. Indeed, electronic switching technology was moving faster than optical technology. In the face of the momentum and installed base of electronic switching and multiplexing, the fibersphere with hundreds of tunable frequencies would remain a fantasy, like Ted Nelson's Xanadu. In 1997 the fantasy is coming true around the world. Xanadu has become the World Wide Web. The erbium-doped fiber amplifier is an explosively growing $250 million business. Electronic TDM seems to have topped out at 2.5 gigabits a second. TDM gear has suffered a series of delays and nagging defects and so far has failed in the market. Electronic TDM failed not only because it pushed the envelope of electronics but also because it violated the new paradigm. In single-mode fiber, the two key impediments are nonlinearities in the glass and chromatic dispersion (the blurring of bit pulses because even in a single band different frequencies move at different speeds). Chromatic dispersion increases by the square of the bit rate, and the impact of nonlinearities rises with the power of the signal. High-powered, high-bit-rate TDM flunked both telecosm tests. By contrast, wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) follows the laws of the telecosm; it succeeds by wasting bandwidth and stinting on power. WDM takes some 33% more bandwidth per bit than TDM, but it reduces power to combat nonlinearity and divides the bitstream into multiple frequencies in order to combat dispersion. Thus it can extend the distance or increase capacity by a factor of four or more today and can lay the foundations for the fibersphere tomorrow. In 1996 the new fiber paradigm emerged in full force. Parallel communications in all-optical networks, long depicted as a broadband pipe dream, crushed all competitors and became the dominant source of new bandwidth in the world telecom network. The year began with a trifold explosion at the Conference on Optical Fiber Communication in San Jose when three companies--Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs, NTT Labs, and Fujitsu--all announced terabit-per-second WDM transmissions down a single fiber. Sprint confirmed the significance of the laboratory breakthroughs by announcing deployment of Ciena's MultiWave 1600 WDM system, so called because it can increase the capacity of a single fiber thread by 1,600%. The revolution continues in 1997. At the beginning of January, NEC declared that by increasing the number of bits per hertz from one to three, it had raised the laboratory WDM record to three terabits per second. During 1996, MCI had increased the speed of its Internet backbone by a factor of 25, from 45 megabits a second to 1.2 gigabits. On January 6, Fred Briggs, chief engineering officer at MCI, announced that his company is in the process of installing new WDM equipment from Hitachi and Pirelli that increases the speed of its phone network backbone to 40 gigabits per second. Accelerating MCI's previous plans by some two years, the new system will use a more limited form of wavelength-division multiplexing to put four 10-gigabit in-cause formation streams on a single fiber thread. The first deployment will use existing facilities on a 275-mile route between Chicago and St. Louis, but the technology will be extended to the entire network. This move will consummate a nearly thousandfold upgrade of the MCI backbone, from 45 megabits per second to 40 gigabits, within some 36 months. Ciena, meanwhile, has announced technology that allows transmission of 100 gigabits per second. Its February IPO was the most important since Netscape (market cap at the end of the first trading day: $3.4 billion). Why? Ciena is the industry leader in open standard WDM gear. During the first six months the MultiWave 1600 was available, through October 1996, the firm achieved $54.8 million in sales and $15 million in net income. (Lucent is believed to be the overall leader with more than $100 million of mostly proprietary AT&T systems.) At the same time, the trans-Pacific consortium announced that it would deploy 100-gigabit-per-second fiber in its new link between the United States and Asia. A powerful new player in these markets will be Tellabs, currently the fastest-growing supplier of electronic digital cross-connect switches and other optical switching gear. In a further coup, following its purchase of broadband digital radio pioneer Steinbrecher, Tellabs has signed up all 12 principals in IBM's all-optical team. Headed by Paul Green, recent chairman of the IEEE Communications Society and author of the leading text on fiber networks, and by Rajiv Ramaswami, coauthor of a new 1997 text on the subject, the IBM group built the world's first fully functioning all-optical networks (AONs), the Rainbow series. Tellabs now owns the 11 AON patents and 100 listed technology disclosures of the group. The implications of the WDM paradigm go beyond simple data pipes. The greatest impact of all-optical technology will likely come in consumer markets. A portent is Artel Video Systems of Marlborough, Massachusetts, which recently introduced a fiber-based WDM system that can transmit 48 digital video channels, 288 CD-quality audio bitstreams, and 64 data channels on one fiber line. Aggregating contributions from a variety of content sources--each on different fiber wavelengths--and delivering them to consumers who tune into favored frequencies on conventional cable, the Artel system represents a key step into the fibersphere. It can be used for new services by either cable TV companies or telcos. The deeper significance of the Artel product, however, is its use of bandwidth as a replacement for transistors and switches. The Artel system works on dark fiber without compression. The video uses 200-megabit-per-second bitstreams (compare MPEG2 at 4 to 6 megabytes per second) that permit lossless transmissions suitable for medical imaging, and obviate dedicated processing of compression codes at the two ends. A move to massively parallel communications analogous to the move to parallel computers, all-optical networks promise nearly boundless bandwidth in fiber. According to Ewart Lowe of British Telecom, whose labs at Martlesham Heath in Ipswich have been a fount of all-optical technology, the new paradigm will reduce the cost of transport by a factor of 10. For example, the optoelectronic amplifiers previously used in fiber networks entailed nine power-hungry bipolar microchips for each wavelength, rather than a simple loop of doped silica that covers scores of wavelengths. As these systems move down through the network hierarchy, the growth of network bandwidth and cost-effectiveness will not only outpace Moore's law, it will also excel the rise in bandwidth within computers--their internal "buses" connecting their microprocessors to memory and input-output. While MCI and Sprint move to deploy technology that functions at 40 gigabits a second, current computers and workstations command buses that run at a rate of close to 1 gigabit a second. This change in the relationship between the bandwidth of networks and the bandwidth of computers will transform the architecture of information technology. As Robert Lucky of Bellcore puts it, "Perhaps we should transmit signals thousands of miles to avoid even the simplest processing function." Lucky implies that the law of the telecosm eclipses the law of the microcosm. Actually, the law of the microcosm makes distributed computers (smart terminals) more efficient regardless of the cost of linking them together. The law of the telecosm makes broadband networks more efficient regardless of how numerous and smart are the terminals. Working together, however, these two laws of wires and switches impel ever more widely distributed information systems, with processing and memory in the optimal locations. WHAT SHOULD THE MAJOR PLAYERS DO NOW? FOR THE TELEPHONE COMPANIES, the age of ever smarter terminals mandates the emergence of ever dumber networks. Telephone companies may complain of the large costs of the transformation of their system, but they command capital budgets as large as the total revenues of the cable industry. Telcos may recoil in horror at the idea of dark fiber, but they command webs of the stuff 10 times larger than any other industry. Dumb and dark networks may not fit the phone company self-image or advertising posture. But they promise larger markets than the current phone company plan to choke off their own future in the labyrinthine nets of an "intelligent switching fabric" always behind schedule and full of software bugs. Telephone switches (now 80% software) are already too complex to keep pace with the efflorescence of the Internet. While computers become ever more lean and mean, turning to reduced instruction-set processors and Java stations, networks need to adopt reduced instruction-set architectures. The ultimate in dumb and dark is the fibersphere now incubating in their magnificent laboratories. The entrepreneurial folk in the computer industry may view this wrenching phone company adjustment with some satisfaction. But computer firms must also adjust. Now addicted to the use of transistors to solve the problems of limited bandwidth, the computer industry must use transistors to exploit the nearly unlimited bandwidth. When home-based machines are optimized for manipulating high-resolution digital video at high speeds, they will necessarily command what are now called supercomputer powers. This will mean that the dominant computer technology will first emerge not in the office market but in the consumer market. The major challenge for the computer industry is to change its focus from a few hundred million offices already full of computer technology to a billion living rooms now nearly devoid of it. Cable companies possess the advantage of already owning dumb networks based on the essentials of the all-optical model of broadcast and select--of customers seeking wavelengths or frequencies rather than switching circuits. Cable companies already provide all the programs to all the terminals and allow them to tune in to the desired messages. But the cable industry cannot become a full-service supplier of telecommunications unless the regulators give up their ridiculous two-wire dream in which everyone competes with cable and no one makes any money. Cash-poor and bandwidth-rich, cable companies need to collaborate with telcos--which are cash-rich and bandwidth-poor--in a joint effort to create broadband systems in their own regions. In all eras, companies tend to prevail by maximizing the use of the cheapest resources. In the age of the fibersphere, they will use the huge intrinsic bandwidth of fiber, all 25,000 gigahertz or more, to simplify everything else. This means replacing nearly all the hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of switches, bridges, routers, converters, codecs, compressors, error correctors, and other devices, together with the trillions of lines of software code, that pervade the intelligent switching fabric of both telephone and computer networks. The makers of all this equipment will resist mightily. But there is no chance that the old regime can prevail by fighting cheap and simple optics with costly and complex electronics and software. The all-optical network will triumph for the same reason that the integrated circuit triumphed: It is incomparably cheaper than the competition. Today, measured by the admittedly rough metric of mips per dollar, a personal computer is more than 2,000 times more cost-effective than a mainframe. Within 10 years, the all-optical network will be thousands of times more cost-effective than electronic networks. Just as the electron rules in computers, the photon will rule the waves of communication. I know people would not write it..But worth a try:)
With Israel being in the Picture now - COULD WE BE CLOSER? Please Read All of this - This IS IMPORTANT - Thank You! Every generation has had 'domesday senerios' I very much know that - However, Israel has only been a country since 1948! Doesn't 'That' fact make the Latter Days talk a bit more significant? I think so! I think this IS IT! When the six day war happened I was just a tiny little girl but I was glued to the TV and watching everything - and when the TV wasn't on - my ear was to a radio! I was living a Jewish girl in Los Angeles - Our Rabbi was talking A LOT ABOUT IT~! When the President of Iran Calls for "Israel to wiped off the map and be no more"! Wow! That's Daniel and Ezekiel! are there people out there or in here or around who do not listen to music? are therer people who do not listen to music, the radio, not even live performances, i would like to meet and talk with people who do not listen to music the radio, or watch movies or television, and rarely hang around on the internet, when i was being prepared for surgery, they came and asked if i would participate in a survey, about whether music was benificial to healing and control of pain, what music would i prefer, i do not prefer music, is this okay with everyone, actually, i do not read magazines, or the daily papers, are there others who follow this style of living, and what made you leave these things and not draw interest from them, or even necessity
I feel a connection with this girl ..? althought we have never met. Only talked over the internet briefly.. and I really know nothing about her but, i feel like we have so much in common. She doesn't live in the same state as me but only a few hrs away. When I stop thinking about her something happens like a song coming on the radio that makes me think of her again. This always happens when I stop thinking about her. I'm not sure what to do... -----I know she's not a bot or anything like that.. I've talked to her thru myspace, just came across her out of boredom and sent her a message.-----
What is this book? I heard about it on the radio about a month or two ago (the author was doing an interview because the book is NEW) and it sounded really interesting. I just looked it up on the internet and the type of book that it is, is called a GAMEBOOK. You make choices throughout the book, choosing the fate of the characters, so there are so many different storylines. It sounded really good. It had an interesting title - maybe of three words? But I really can't remember. There can't be many new 'gamebooks' coming out right this second, do you know which one I am talking about?? (I live in the UK) xxxx yes it was. But it was none of those. A woman wrote it. I would recognise the title and I don't remember those.. xxx
star if u think this is funny.? THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!! If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!! When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning ... uphill BOTH ways. yadda, yadda, yadda And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it! But now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a darn Utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it! I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!! There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter, with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there! There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music; you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ's usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens; it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE! When you went to the movie theater there was no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just screwed! Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no on screen menu and no remote control! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards! And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove or go build a frigging fire ... imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing and shake it over the stove forever like an idiot. That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980! Regards, The over 30 Crowd gesh some people laugh hahaha!! its a joke. dont take it so serious i am not even over 30 i jus love this. it is so true though.

Is it too much past? My husband was previusly married for more than 10 years, we live in the west coast and he use to live in the east coast, when he is on the computer he spends his time checking on the websites, channels, radios and any info he can get from the city where he use to live, so he is watching those channels all the time and know the news and the weather of his ex town (where his ex and kids live), plus he is always talking about how things where better there (which is the same time that he was previusly married) and how things worked better there, how he had a beautifull house, nice car, how his ex wife knew how to cook, as well as his mother, don´t you think that he is bringing way too much past in to our present lives? I get mad every time I check the history of the internet explorer and all I find are websites from his former town!! or home town, am I over reacting??
Pornography: A Public Health Crisis? Pornography: A Public Health Crisis By Mercedes W. Gutierrez * A recent article in the Denver Post warned that the infusion of pornography into mainstream culture has reached “epidemic” proportions, to the point of being classified as a “public-health crisis.” James Weaver, a professor at George Mason University in Virginia conducted research on pornography and its effects in the 1980s. He concluded, “we need to do with pornography what we did with smoking and drunk driving.” In years past, “we had the courage as a society to talk about smoking and responsible drinking, but we haven’t been able to get past our inhibitions about talking about pornography.” He insists that we need to call pornography what it is: a distortion. And, as research confirms, this distortion is devastating our marriages, families and society as a whole. For example, a 2002 survey of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers analyzed the impact of Internet use on marriages. It indicated that 56% of the divorce cases in the study involved one party’s obsessive interest in pornographic websites. Along with destroying marriages, pornography is affecting children at younger ages today. Mary Anne Layden, co-director of the Sexual Trauma and Psychopathology Program at the University of Pennsylvania, stated that the average age a child gets their first glimpse at pornography is now five years old. No wonder Weaver is labeling pornography’s influx as “a public health crisis.” Pornography, especially internet porn, wreaks havoc on society because it is easily accessible, anonymous, and addictive. Not only do pornographic pop-ups infiltrate cable channels and internet sites, but the ability to view the material in the privacy of your own home removes any shame associated with the act. Tragically, most viewers buy into the illusion that this pornographic fantasy world is merely entertainment. They have little understanding that this addiction is detrimental to their own physical, spiritual and emotional well-being. The Catechism explains that pornography “does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public) since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others” (#2354). In other words, pornography separates the sexual act from the intimacy of spouses and places it on display for pleasure and profit. Pornography perverts and strips the conjugal act of its meaning. In addition, those involved in the act exploit themselves and those who view the material. Respect for the gift of sexuality diminishes along with the reverence owed to the dignity of the human person. Again, pornography exploits for pleasure and profit. And, this pornographic mentality is infiltrating our daily print, radio, and televised media in ways we don’t even recognize. For instance, when perusing through fashion magazines, almost every advertisement exploits a certain feature of a woman. Most especially, ads for Victoria’s Secret over-sexualize women and use obvious pornographic poses to sell their products. Similarly, an increasing number of network television programs like Desperate Housewives or Sex in the City are known for their provocative portrayal of sex and sexuality. This messaging is very dangerous, especially for women today. It not only objectifies the women in the ads or programs, but subconsciously convinces us that we must exploit or objectify ourselves. As women, we need to be aware of these advertising ploys and guard our hearts and minds from objectification. In addition, we need to educate and safeguard our families against the addictive accessibility of pornography, which seeks to undermine the inherent dignity of the human person. * Mercedes W. Gutierrez sits on the Board of Directors for ENDOW (Educating on the Nature and Dignity of Women,) a non-profit, grassroots organization that promotes the New Feminism as proposed by Pope John Paul II. Mercedes and her husband Sergio live in Denver, Colorado.
"The 25 Things That Killed Hip Hop" list, What do you think of this list and how many do you agree with? I did not create this list but what do you think about this list?.....source below..... http://www.soulbounce.com/soul/2008/04/25_things_that_killed_urban_mu.php 25 Things That Killed (and are Still Killing) Urban Music In the midst of everyone's declarations that "Hip Hop is Dead" we somehow forgot the slow death that is spreading across all aspects of "urban" music, as the legacy of Soul and its close cousins has devolved into a writhing mass of commercialism, homogenization, thuggification and overall laziness. Now, in no particular order, we present to you the "25 Things That Killed (and are Still Killing) Urban Music" because you love lists and SoulBounce isn't afraid to say what you're thinking. Keep in mind that there will be some overlap, as certain items gave way to others that deserve their own spanking. 1. The End of the "Event" Album: There was a time when albums encompassed an era that included a look, a feel, and a style that informed an artist's videos and live performances for as long as they (or the label) could squeeze revenue from a project by releasing singles. The "event" album can chiefly be credited to Jacksons Michael and Janet, who have entire timelines built around the idea of a "Thriller Era" or a "Rhythm Nation Era". Nowadays, instead of treating albums as what they are (a collection of songs with one unifying theme) artists are more likely to seek out the most ubiquitous Hip Hop beatmakers of the moment and record over a hundred songs from which to "pick" singles. Also, when you have artists that are too scared to release music with a healthy 3-5 year gap in between, the lines to between albums begin to blur, and the eras become indistinguishable, rendering them null. 2. Big Name Hip Hop Producers: With respect due to the beatmakers that introduce a track with the name of their production imprint, ad-lib all over it, and insert themselves as guest rappers 50% of the time, they overshadow the actual vocalist of a song. We certainly don't begrudge any of them the right to employment, but when an artist has to do an inventory of who produced her project to qualifiy it instead of telling us what the album is about, we have to take exception. Reality check: If you're trying to goad me into a purchasing your album because you have a Pharrell beat on it and I'm a Pharrell fan, then that's the only song I'm buying. Your album has to have legs of its own. 3. Deaths of The Notorious B.I.G. & 2Pac: You can probably draw a direct line from the deaths of Biggie and 'Pac to the current state of Hip Hop. The two of them cultivated a style that even a decade later is re- and misappropriated to the nth. Perhaps if they were still alive, they'd have pushed the genre forward. Or maybe they'd be wack and irrelevant. Hey, at least they died while they were still good. 4. "Neo-Soul": We understand the emergence of the "neo-soul" genre as a response to the growing commercialization of modern R&B. But even the artists lumped into this category began to the see that the term was as much a marketing ploy as the very things they eschewed. The language used to describe these artists ranged from "organic" to "avant garde" and any press materials would claim that he/she looks up to Stevie, Marvin and Donnie. And don't stand too close to the stage lest you get burned by the candles and frankencense! Before long, the audience would be fooled and we would either grow to love or loathe this music, defending the art of its purveyors and loudly wondering why they couldn't move as many units as their mainstream counterparts. Simply put, "neo-soul" has become a term used by people to describe music they respect but would never buy. 5. Reality TV: Aside from the manufactured Pop idols that are struggling to stay signed within their prize contracts, we have to question the motives of Sean Combs, Robin Antin and Missy Elliott, who have all aped the reality television format to generate acts for their own stable of artists. To be sure, reality TV has replaced proper Artist Development as a means for these entrepreneurs to cash in, stroke their egos and embarrass people who, 9 times out of 10, deserve it. Speaking of which, what's O'so Krispie doing? 6. Lazy A&R Departments: Did you know that A&R people are also responsible for Artist Development? Probably not, since these days a newly-signed artist is more likely to be stripped of their identity and given one that falls in step with what's popular or, even worse, none at all. Take Cheri Dennis for example. While her album has a respectable amount of solid R&B tracks, we still don't know who Cheri Dennis is, what sets her apart from everyone else or even what she sounds like. But, she has earned the distinction of being signed to her label for nearly a decade with no album to speak of. Did the A&R department utilize that time by playing Spades? Probably. 7. Scarface and The Untouchables: Okay, rapper, we get it, Scarface and The Untouchables are the greatest movies ever made; your life in celluloid, even. But, if you look close enough, you'll come to learn that you are neither Pacino or De Niro and should stop emulating them by using audio clips from the films in your interludes and the script in your lyrics. Too many of you are still doing this after all these years. Also, tell members of your crew to stop calling themselves "Ness" and "Nitti". Just, please, cut it out. Thank you. 8. Thugs: Not only do we have "Studio Thugs" that use de Palma films to inform their image (see above) but there's the "Corporate Thug" (robs an artist of his publishing and signs him to a hellified contract he could never fulfill) and the questionable "R&B Thug", which happened somewhere between R. Kelly and Jodeci and continues to this day. Along the way, labels got the bright idea that the way to a woman's heart was by selling drugs and beating up people. Sexy! This trend has also given rise to something else we'll never understand: "R&B Beef", in which two singers talk trash about each other to the media. Unfortunately, this doesn't result in a "sing-off" but pretty much makes everyone involved look kind of retarded. 9. Crime: Between violating probation, not paying child support, being pulled over and caught with an ounce of weed or cocaine, assaulting nail technicians, shooting people, tossing concertgoers off the stage, committing perjury, tax evasion, and urinating on minors, we have to wonder if being a good artist means being a bad citizen. 10. Ringtones: "Real Music Ringtones" were created as a way to distinguish your ringing cellular from someone else's while also bringing you closer to your favorite artist. Unfortunately, the labels realized this was the only way to generate revenue and started making music for the sole purpose of selling ringtones. Now, we have stripped-down keyboard beats and grunts and "yaahhs" instead of lyrics. Is that my cellphone ringing or yours? We'll never know, because we both downloaded Soulja Boy. 11. Lack of Music Programs in Schools: Programs like Garage Band have not only made producers lazy, but undercut the importance of immersing young would-be musicians in music history as well as basic composition. Unless a popular musician was trained in the church, they probably lucked into a contract without knowing how to write, play an instrument, or worse, sing a note. 12. BET (and by extension its corporate owner) is on a mission to not only destroy urban music, but poison the perception of Black people in the process. If we were to use this network as a guide (and people unfortunately do), we would believe that "drug dealer > rapper > pimp" is a logical career path, alcoholic beverages can be used as bodysplash, women of exotic or indeterminate race are the standard of beauty, darker-skinned women are only valuable if they have a big ass and a tiny waist, a person's worth can only be determined by what they drive and what they wear, you ain't sh*t if you're over 30, and a week's worth of debauchery and decadence can be undone with a Sunday marathon of religious programming. It's funny because it's true. 13. The Radio: Used to be, you would turn on the radio and hear a variety of artists with a variety of sounds. But due to the "Clear Channeling" of Urban Radio, you'll hear a T-Pain song followed by 15 minutes of commercials, followed by a song featuring T-Pain, some shucking and jiving by unbearable radio personalities for five minutes, then something that resembles a T-Pain song, but isn't because just about everyone sounds like T-Pain now. And it's probably a commercial. 14. Spineless Club DJs: If you're going out to a club, you might as well sit in the house and blast the radio instead of paying the inflated cover charge. Once upon a time, DJs were tastemakers, but now so many of them are afraid they'll clear the floor by spinning something new that they just play album versions of songs people are tired of but are too drunk to notice. Then, they add insult to injury by showing off their "skills" with poorly-timed scratches, blends that don't line up and screaming over the music. And consider yourself lucky if you happen upon a DJ with ACTUAL! VINYL! RECORDS! 15. Mainstream Hip Hop Publications: Back in the 90's, holding one of these rags in your hands was like holding a monthly Bible to all things Hip Hop and R&B. Now, they've all been relegated to chasing blogs and reiterating things we already knew weeks ahead instead of properly utilizing the print medium to do something unique. Changes in personnel and ownership aside, they were already marching towards irrelevance. Even the covers suck now, but you probably won't get the damn thing delivered on time in order to find out. 16. Bloggers: Guilty as charged! Trifle few of us are qualified to be writing about music with any authority, especially since most of the people behind blogs haven't been alive long enough to have a healthy perspective on the subject. Although it can be argued that record companies rely on blogs for buzz, most of the music championed by popular websites is the same music that would've gotten attention anyway. Also, we have to point out that the commenting system has turned discussions about music into an unholy war of "haters" versus "stans", where everyone is an expert on what they hate or love, but have no concept of anything else including real life. Oh, and providing your readers with the URL to full album leaks doesn't "help" the artist. 17. Youtube & Myspace: On the Internet, everyone is a star (thank you, thank you). But while sites like Myspace and Youtube can provide mainstream and indie musicians with a means of cultivating and connecting with an audience, it becomes a chore to sort through the muck of people with a webcam and a login classifying themselves as "artists". And damn you all to Hell for having the crap you made in Grandma's basement on auto-play. 18. Singing Rappers, Acting Rappers & Rapping Athletes: We'll keep this short. Every now and then you'll happen upon someone that has been able to organically transition from one career to another. Will and Latifah come to mind. To everyone else (coughCurtiscough), stay in your lane. Again, we don't begrudge anyone the chance to make some extra ends; it just shouldn't be at the expense of the audience. 19. The End of Real Singing Groups: Once upon a time, you not only had singing groups that weren't put together by a reality show, but wherein each member contributed a distinct voice or purpose to the group. Sometimes they had members that barely sang a note, but who actually produced or wrote the song. Point is, throwing a bunch of strangers in a house with one phone and giving them makeovers doesn't create synergy. Also, name a recent singing group that wasn't created for a television show or for the purpose of launching someone's solo career. Exactly. 20. "Kanyitis" is a temporary, yet frequent, illness that afflicts singers and rappers alike, wherein an artist waits until the precise moment they are in front of a camera, microphone or reporter to say something shocking and stupid, which will then be quoted by bloggers and searched on Youtube ad nauseum. Then the artist has to explain what they "really" meant, but by that time everyone already thinks they're nuts and doesn't care about a retraction. 21. Death of Aaliyah: Not that Aaliyah took an entire genre of music with her to the grave, but it can be argued that her passing made way for a wave of young, pretty dancers with okay voices and no personality. Only difference between them and Aaliyah is, Aaliyah had personality along with talent, ideas and a willingness to experiment. Also, she wasn't so full of herself. 22. Money: Even worse than artists releasing garbage because they know it sells is the audience's obsession with how much an artist makes. Unfortunately, we've given lack of artistry a pass because someone's "making that paper", which totally undermines the hard work of true creative talents that are constantly writing, recording, and performing. When I buy an album I don't want to hear an entrepreneur, which brings us to-- 23. Products & Brands: Whether rappers and singers are inserting the names of designer alcoholic beverages into their lyrics or cable companies are inserting rappers and singers in their ad campaigns, things come to a point where we need to start realizing how owned these artists are. There's a thin line between businessperson and corporate slave. We'd also like to reiterate a fact that has been pointed out time and time again over the past 10 years: If you can't pronounce it, why should we care that you're wearing it, driving it, or drinking it? 24. People That Aren't in Any Way Associated with Music: Opportunities in the industry are built on connections and there's almost never been a time when someone didn't rise to stardom on someone else's coattails. But now, things have gotten way out of hand. Why be an actual artist when you can be someone that danced in videos, screwed a bunch of rappers and got a book deal? Or, you can be a butler or Executive In Charge of Umbrella-Carrying? Or, worse, be the "Fifth Mic" guy on stage and reliable instigator? Who needs a recording studio? 25. Teenagers: Young people have always had the power to determine trends in all genres of music, which is why corporations defer to them. However, today's teenagers seem to be slightly more insipid than they were in previous generations and definitely have a shorter attention span. Whether it's the teens themselves driving the garbage labels are releasing, or the labels that are leading teens down a path of ignorance, is totally up for debate. It's the chicken/egg question in its purest form.
